With the NFL season around the corner and the Chargers’ first preseason game almost here, the Chargers will look to be more competitive in the AFC West to make another playoff run under coach Jim Harbaugh.
There will be plenty of storylines for Chargers training camp, especially when it comes to the position battles for those who want to make the roster.
One in particular is the Wide Receiver position.
Following the recent retirement of former Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams, the wide receiver position will be wide open for players trying to make a good impression and stand out to the coaches to secure a roster spot. Chargers wide receivers rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith showed in training camp that they want to make a spot on the Chargers this season.
Tre Harris’s best play in camp was a smooth route from Justin Herbert on a fourth-and-4 practice play. KeAndre Lambert-Smith made a 30-plus catch on a 4th-down play from backup QB Trey Lance.
Quentin Johnston

One Wide Receiver in particular, who has proven so far that he deserves to make the roster, is Quentin Johnston. So far in camp, he has 5 touchdowns, 2 of which came from the red zone practice on the offense. The third-year wide receiver has shown signs of growth, most especially his ability to track down deep balls, as he struggled with dropped passes the last two seasons since he came into the league.
Chargers QB says that Quentin Johnston “adds so much to his game.” The wide receiver is proving to coaches that he’s going to have a big year this season. Justin Herbert also mentioned that Quentin Johnston is “talented and gifted.”
Now that Mike Williams is retired, the Chargers’ wide receiver position is wide open, with guys trying to prove that they have a chance to make the roster, and Quentin Johnston is looking to fill the spot for the Wide Receiver position.
The Chargers’ training camp will be interesting, as it will also provide opportunities for players to prove they have a shot at making the team.
The Chargers are also preparing for their first preseason game of the year against the Detroit Lions. Chargers fans are excited that football is around the corner.
