There’s been an interesting rumor floating around the Los Angeles Chargers this week concerning their draft plans for tomorrow – one which ESPN’s Adam Schefter decided to quickly shoot down.
Yesterday, ESPN betting analyst Joe Fortenbaugh noted that the odds have shrunk considerably on the Chargers to draft a quarterback with their first draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the span of a few weeks the odds have gone from 100/1 to 15/1 all the way down to 6/1 as of yesterday.
Many NFL fans have started trusting the Vegas oddsmakers more than insiders as it’s commonly believed that bettors know more than what reporters will tell us.
But on Wednesday, Schefter appeared on Get Up to set the record straight. He declared that “a sucker is born every minute” and that there is “no chance in hell” that the Chargers will draft a quarterback on Thursday.
“There’s a sucker born every minute because there is NO CHANCE in hell that the Chargers are drafting a quarterback tomorrow night,” Schefter said.
That said, it’s not like Adam Schefter hasn’t been completely wrong before. If he’s claiming that the Chargers aren’t drafting a quarterback it could just mean that people who rank higher than his sources haven’t said so publicly.
The Chargers already have a Pro Bowl quarterback in Justin Herbert and have already given him a massive contract extension. It would be crazy for the team to abandon a quarterback who is still very young in favor of a completely unknown quantity.
But never say never in the NFL…
