Dolphins star free agent Jevon Holland will not receive a franchise tag before he hits free agency next month. According to several reports, the safety sets himself up as one of the top free agents in the market despite the Dolphins having a disastrous 2024 campaign. The Dolphins already began cleaning up cap space by releasing Raheem Mostert and Kendall Fuller to give them relief since they’ll be over just $5.4 million for 2025. There wasn’t a chance Miami could afford to bring him back so it’s easier to let him walk and possibly earn himself a big payday with another team.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Oregon product has blossomed to play anywhere in the secondary unit. He has a special playmaking ability and that was evident after posting five interceptions, five sacks and five forced fumbles so it’s clear he has a lot of years ahead of him. Holland made a lot of splash plays for the Dolphins after Pro Football Focus had him as one of the top 5 safeties in the league in 2021 and 2023. With the next right scenery, it should not be surprising if he winds up making an impact for another team like a contender.

Next Possible Teams
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs don’t have the financial liberty to improve their defense with superstar talent. However, since they’ll most likely let Justin Reid walk in free agency, they will have to find a replacement. The safety department is different from the cornerback unit so they need depth either way since Reid will likely land a massive contract elsewhere. After trading L’Jarius Sneed, the pass secondary had a few miscues and a guy like Holland could give some relief alongside Bryan Cook.
Baltimore Ravens
After agreeing to restructure Marcus Williams’ contract, they will likely release him. With that, he had one of the most disastrous seasons since getting benched in favor of Ar’Darius Washington. Kyle Hamilton is eligible for an extension but they could pull off signing Holland at a reliable price to pair with him for next season.
Los Angeles Chargers
The pass secondary was one of the most successful for the Los Angeles Chargers but it wasn’t enough to get past the wild-card round. However, they have several secondary free agents like Marcus Maye, Derwin James and Kristian Fulton. The Chargers will at least re-sign one of them while they probably find another safety to pair with Alohi Gilman. With that, the good news is that Los Angeles has money to burn and could give Holland a phenomenal deal.
Washington Commanders
The Commanders had a fiery performance with their wide receiver department but that can’t be said about the secondary. They had their moments with Benjamin St-Juste but he will become a free agent alongside Marshon Lattimore after the team just brought him in from a trade to boost their postseason chances. However, they should focus on rebuilding their secondary since it needs some work and Holland is the perfect replacement since Jeremy Chinn will hit the market too.
New Orleans Saints
As for the Saints, it’s hard if any superstar signing will happen for them since they’re in cap hell for a second straight season. However, veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu has an uncertain future so the team should be in the market for an immediate replacement. Holland might not be on the same level but he’s easily the fastest one since he’s much younger.
