Deebo Samuel Trade Likely Spells End For Commanders Free Agent – 5 Next Possible Teams

March 4, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

samuel trade dyami brown

After the Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel, this likely means the team will move on from free agent Dyami Brown this offseason. According to reports, the Commanders made noise this past weekend trading for the star wideout to no surprise considering the relationship between him and Adam Peters had in San Francisco. However, this means the Commanders will probably let Dyami Brown walk in the coming weeks where he could receive plenty of interest. The Commanders still have time to “re-sign” him but it shouldn’t be surprising if don’t do that as the team wants to take advantage of rookie Jayden Daniel’s rookie contract window.

Originally selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former North Carolina product had a quiet 2024 campaign while Daniels was connecting with WR1 Terry McLaurin. However, things changed when the Commanders played in the first two weeks of the NFL playoffs where Brown was magically in his run hauling in 14 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown just after recording 30 receptions for 308 yards and one touchdown. Since the Commanders have found their new No. 2 receiver, they could take another direction to either sign or trade for another veteran considering they were close to a Super Bowl this year. Brown is still a capable wideout with bursts of speed and versatility but he might be better off salvaging these five teams passing departments.

Potential Destinations

Carolina Panthers

Quarterback Bryce Young found some life at the end of the 2024 campaign, but the team could use another wide receiver. The Panthers probably won’t go after a top-notch veteran but they could probably sign Dyami Brown to a lucrative two-year deal. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two long-term unproven wideouts but perhaps, they could plug Brown in that mix to boost the chemistry of the passing department. Adam Thielen is depleting and will likely retire next year so Brown is a solid replacement.

Kansas City Chiefs

While the Chiefs will probably lose DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown in free agency, the team could find a younger replacement at a cheap cost. Dyami Brown could be the perfect man in this scenario and may thrive alongside Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice as the new three-headed speedsters. Brown will likely fight for the WR3 spot but it gives Patrick Mahomes another weapon that has a promising stock.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys need just about wide receiver to help Dak Prescott excel in the passing game. Last year, they traded for Jonathan Mingo but he hasn’t done much to prove he’s a long-term answer. Perhaps, they could add Brown on a one-year deal to create some burst behind CeeDee Lamb. Brown is an upgrade from an aging Brandin Cooks and will probably earn himself a potential WR2 spot.

Los Angeles Chargers

As of this posting, the Chargers only have one reliable wideout in second-year Ladd McConkey. Quarterback Justin Herbert needs more homegrown talent to establish in his offense and Brown could be one of those receivers. Quentin Johnston is depleting at a young age and Joshua Palmer is a free agent so Brown is a solid first step to salvage the wide receiving corps.

New Orleans Saints

This might be the route the Saints have to take since they can’t afford a high-profile veteran for a trade or blockbuster signing. Dyami Brown is a significant upgrade over what the Saints have in their pass-catching department. Chris Olave and Brown teaming up as a new potential duo might bring out the shine in Derek Carr.
