One of the top NFL Free Agents from the Kansas City Chiefs Charles Omenihu is still available on the market. According to a source, remains a top-five talent that the Chiefs have yet to re-sign but it looks like the chances of that happening are slim. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Texas product became a hidden gem for the Chiefs, recording 19.5 sacks, six fumbles and 101 total tackles through six seasons. Kansas City could try to sneak in a bargain deal but due to off-field issues in 2023 and injuries that kept him out of the contest for the majority of the 2024 campaign, the Chiefs might be better off without him.
Omenihu isn’t the best pass rusher in the league but he’s still a worthy rotational defensive lineman piece to get after the quarterback. His price tag might be too rich for the Chiefs and since they’ve already been signing players such as Jerry Tillery as depth in the defensive tackle unit, it seems like they’re going the bargain route. To no surprise, the team did re-sign linebacker Nick Bolton and a few in-home free agents so they don’t have a lot of spending money. Omenihu might benefit from earning a role with a new contender in the league and these five teams could award him the opportunity.

Possible Destinations
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens never found a true replacement for Jadeveon Clowney after losing him last offseason. Broderick Washington and Travis Jones are two promising but unproven defensive linemen who aren’t up to Nnamdi Madubuike’s standards. Omenihu could earn himself a starting role opposite of Roquan Smith to get after the quarterback.
Buffalo Bills
The NFL Free Agency is already off to one of the worst starts in the league. Both free agent signees Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht are going to miss the start of the regular season for six games due to PEDs. It’s a huge hit to the defensive line despite signing a bruised Joey Bosa. Omenihu might not be a defensive tackle but he could be a dependable opposite defensive end to help get after the quarterback.
Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders lost probably a free-agent gem in Dante Fowler Jr. who is reuniting with the Dallas Cowboys. Linebacker Bobby Wagner is coming back but they need more defensive help other than Javon Kinlaw who’s been a disaster for the 49ers the team is giving him a chance. Even though they’ve found Deatrich Wise, he isn’t capable of full-time duties so the team is probably better off with Omenihu starting.
Los Angeles Chargers
After losing Joey Bosa, they need at least a capable edge even though Khalil Mack is returning. Poona Ford is probably their biggest loss this free agency but they got Teair Tart back. Omenihu could be a better athlete in Jim Harbaugh’s run defense in the trenches to pair with Tart and get after the quarterback.
Carolina Panthers
Head Coach Dave Canales has done well signing Tershawn Wharton to help aid Derrick Brown’s return. Despite missing out on Milton Williams, the Panthers are still in a good spot to turn around the defense. They could use Omenihu’s presence opposite of Brown to give this team more of a force in the run defense.
