Chiefs Could Target Top Free Agent After Latest Injury

September 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

While Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is serving a suspension, the team has lost another offensive weapon in Xavier Worthy due to a brutal injury, and they may target a new one. According to the breaking news, Worthy is heading in for an MRI to see the severity of his injury after getting rammed by teammate Travis Kelce in their loss against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. If the second-year receiver plans to miss some time, the Chiefs might have no other choice but to sign a capable target that can be a temporary fill. The wide receiver position has been an issue for the Chiefs and the team can’t catch a break as they’re down between Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton and Nikko Remigio.

Half of these receivers aren’t proven, and they’re still adjusting to full-time duties, so the Chiefs must figure out how to prepare for Week 2 as they’ll take on the Eagles in a revenge Super Bowl rematch. With that, it might make sense for the team to target veteran free agent Odell Beckham Jr., who is still available and looking for the right opportunity. There were rumors that he was retiring, but that was all a hoax, as the receiver has no plans to retire. The Chiefs won’t be the only team looking to Beckham, so they must act fast before these three teams snag him.

Other Possible Fits

Baltimore Ravens

If John Harbaugh wants to get Beckham in their already blockbuster receiver lineup, they should. When you are in the same AFC with the Chiefs, Chargers and Bills, it’s always better to stack up on talent than allowing them to sign elsewhere, especially with a rival like the Chiefs. After signing DeAndre Hopkins, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the most powerful receiver groups with Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Beckham returning to Baltimore makes sense for both sides since the two had terrific chemistry in their first stint.

It might not be the same if he comes back, but it gives the Ravens another body in the aerial attack.

Dallas Cowboys

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are lacking separation in their passing attack, and that might be why Dak Prescott is only targeting CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson. Perhaps Beckham joining Dallas could open the aerial attack and bring George Pickens back to life. It won’t be perfect, but it might give Prescott some stability in his passing game since they can’t let Pickens go to waste or overuse Lamb.

It was evident from Lamb’s drops that Prescott might need to throw it to Pickens more often, rather than to Lamb, for the time being, until he feels ready for extra looks.

Los Angeles Chargers

However, the Los Angeles Chargers could steal Beckham before the Chiefs get a chance to sign him. They look like they’ll be a problem for Kansas City despite it being just Week 1. Quentin Johnston had a few good moments, but can he stay consistent and catch the football? Beckham could be a useful receiver to help Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen.
