The New Orleans Saints are embracing the tank, which means Alvin Kamara could be on the trade block. A third-round pick in the Saints historic 2017 NFL Draft class, Kamara was once one of the game’s premier talents at the running back position. While he has lost a step over the last few years, he’s still a starting-caliber running back who should draw interest on the trade market.
With the Saints season effectively over and third-year running back Kendre Miller impressing, Bleacher Report’s Krisopher Knox believes that two division rivals could try to trade for Alvin Kamara. Naming the Chiefs and Chargers as the most likely suitors, Knox said the Saints “have a chance to make a move” and get some draft capital for Kamara’s services.

Chiefs, Chargers Projected to Trade For Saints Alvin Kamara
The Los Angeles Chargers need another running back in the worst way. The team entered the season with veteran Najee Harris and first-round pick Omarion Hampton, but injuries have claimed both players. While Hampton is expected to return later in the season, Harris has torn his Achilles and will be out for the year. This leaves journeymen Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal battling for starting duties, and this is bad news for everyone involved.
The Chargers have been throwing the ball more than normal this year, but they still need a quality running back to lead the rushing attack. An Alvin Kamara trade would accomplish this goal, and Jim Harbaugh’s squad shouldn’t wait to pull the trigger. The AFC West is one of the most competitive divisions in football, and the Chargers can’t wait around to upgrade their roster.
In the short term, Alvin Kamara can be a true three-down back for this offense. His hands are as good as ever, and while he lacks the explosion he had in the late 2010s, he should thrive in Greg Roman’s scheme. Once Hampton returns, the two should form one of the league’s better two-headed backfields.
Saving the Season
The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves with an underwhelming 2-3 record through five weeks of action. While the inevitable return of Rashee Rice will help the offense, this team needs to do something about the running back room. Isiah Pacheco is not a starting-caliber talent, and Kareem Hunt is well past his prime. This team needs more playmakers, and an Alvin Kamara trade could be the best way to fix this backfield.
Historically speaking, Andy Reid prefers to have a three-down workhorse lead his backfield. However, that hasn’t happened in recent seasons, as he hasn’t had a player capable of handling that type of workload since Hunt’s first stint with the team. Alvin Kamara might not be the player he once was, but the trade target can still handle that type of workload. While he may not have another Pro Bowl season in him, he should lift the overall ceiling of this offense.
