The Chargers and Rashawn Slater have reset the market for offensive tackles with their latest agreement.
The wait is finally over.
The Chargers and offensive tackle Rashawn Slater agreed to a four-year, $114 million contract extension on Sunday afternoon that immediately makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history. The deal also includes a record $92 million in guaranteed money.

Since being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Northwestern, Slater has started all 52 games he has appeared in. He earned Second-Team All-Pro honors as a rookie and has twice been named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 and 2024.
This past season, Slater helped protect quarterback Justin Herbert week-in and week-out en route to the latter throwing just three interceptions over the entire regular season. The eight total turnovers by the Chargers that year was also a franchise record and the second-least turnovers committed in NFL history.
We all knew this deal was inevitable, but it’s phenomenal to see it get done before the team got all super deep into training camp. As one of the best tackles in the NFL, it’s about time Slater got paid like it.
