The Chargers and Saints could interfere with a potential Davante Adams Packers reunion this upcoming offseason. According to reports, the wide receiver is causing buzz around the league again as the veteran will likely become the top free agent available in March. After a disastrous season with the New York Jets, many should expect several players like Aaron Rodgers, Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed to leave the team. However, Adams has two years on his current contract but teams this offseason might get flexible this offseason to buy him out since the only reason why the veteran came to the Jets was because of Rodgers.
The veteran will be looking for a new team but the Packers seem like a considerable fit since they may have Christian Watson on the trade block after his season-ending injury. It was a disappointing campaign for quarterback Jordan Love and more of a messy wild-card game against the Eagles where they couldn’t get anything going for the passing game. Adams expresses that the Packers could use some “wide receiver help” depending on what they do this upcoming free agency as far as improving to become a legitimate playoff threat. However, Green Bay has all the marbles on offense but the non-existent veteran presence might be what’s stopping them from becoming greater.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, the former six-time Pro Bowler became one of the greatest Packer legends in the Rodgers era so he checkmarks what the Packers could be looking for. Despite that, there will be plenty of frontrunners like the Chargers, Saints to pursue him in a potential trade.

Helping Justin Herbert
The Los Angeles Chargers have plenty of bright spots beyond what happened to them in their wild-card loss against the Houston Texans. However, head coach Jim Harbaugh knew they didn’t get quarterback Justin Herbert at the right moment since the team barely made moves to improve the passing attack. They’ve got Jalen Reagor to supply some emergency depth but wideouts like Quentin Johnston haven’t been able to get over the hump after his worst performance in the postseason. This is why the Chargers should feel motivated to give Herbert some superstar talent to work with if they want to advance further in the playoffs.
Harbaugh can talk about improving their ground game but matchups will all come down to who has the better weapons in their possession. Quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and C.J. Stroud all have talented wide receivers but that leaves Herbert to embrace relying on the slant routes to throw to a rookie Ladd McConkey. Perhaps, they could sign someone like Adams to see if he can improve their deep passing attack, something the team has been struggling with the entire 2024 campaign.
Rebuilding the Saints
Meanwhile, the Saints will need to rebuild no matter what General Manager Mickey Loomis says regardless of the denial. While they look for a new head coach, they must give the next starting quarterback the best position to have a chance in the aerial attack. There’s no word on what might happen to Chris Olave but wideouts like Rashid Shaheed and Marquez Valdes-Scantling can’t do it alone. It will be hard for the team to release some of their talent who are a cap casualty but if the incoming coach can get creative, he should trade for Davante Adams.
