The Chargers and Ravens are among the three destinations for Saints cut receiver, AT Perry. Many reports state the Saints are releasing Perry in a shocking move as he’s recovering from injuries. Perry was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft with a lot of promise to add to the receiving corps. However, his 2023 campaign was met with plenty of injury concerns, missing the first seven games of his NFL career.
The Saints were hoping he could become at least a reliable WR3 behind Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Perry was showing some promise after receiving a prominent role in the last eight weeks of the last season. He notched 12 receptions for 246 yards and four scores. However, he didn’t do much to persuade the Saints coaching staff since injuries continue to hinder his full potential.
The release is still surprising but it may be a sign that they could try to trade for Davante Adams. Derek Carr would be open to that reunion so it makes sense why the Saints may be preparing to create room for him. However, it isn’t over for Perry since he’s still in his second year with the NFL. Any roster that needs depth would probably be open to bringing him in, especially at the right cost.
Perry led the NFL in receiving yards this past preseason. The performance of Olave and Shaheed continued to overshadow Perry in New Orleans so it makes sense why the Saints are moving on. Here are some possible destinations for Perry to revive his NFL career.
Chargers, Ravens Among Destinations For Saints Cut Receiver AT Perry
Possible Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers probably won’t trade for any receiver with a high price tag. This means they could take the cheap route of targeting a free agent and can sign now to make an impact. However, the team would have to be patient since Perry is still recovering. They’re already on thin ice with Quentin Johnston, Joshua Palmer and DJ Chark.
So this may motivate the roster to bring in another weapon to rotate the passing attack. Justin Herbert isn’t running the ball forever to the backfield. He needs at least a couple more receivers to bring some new life to Los Angeles. Rookie Ladd McConkey is their only reliable slot man so maybe Perry could carve out a role as a WR4.
Baltimore Ravens
Perry is by no means improving a team’s offense but he’s another weapon to work with. The Ravens have a solid three-set receiver of Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor. However, they have rookie Devontez Walker waiting for an opportunity so even if he could get behind and learn from one of the best collection receivers, he could restart his campaign and come back to make an impact when he’s ready. Baltimore probably can only afford a cheap weapon so signing Perry might not be surprising.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers are entering another rebuilding mode despite doing that this past offseason, signing Diontae Johnson and drafting Xavier Legette. Carolina probably won’t extend Johnson beyond this year and Adam Thielen is on IR. This means the Panthers could move on all around and make Legette their No. 1 receiver. Thielen is aging and doesn’t have plenty of years ahead of him so Perry being his temporary replacement could give them time to focus on what they need to build on for next year.
