With recent injuries, the team needs a massive boost to maintain control in the AFC West.
Chargers GM Joe Hortiz made a trade with Baltimore for OLB Odafe Oweh.
The Ravens received safety Alohi Gilman and a 2026 fifth-round pick.
Oweh was a 2021 first-round pick back when Chargers General Manager Joe Hortiz was Baltimore’s Director of Player Personnel. Corey Krawiec, who is the Chargers Director of Player Personnel strategy, was also with Baltimore in 2021 when the Ravens drafted Odafe Oweh. Oweh is definitely familiar with some of the Chargers’ front office staff.
Odafe Oweh has 13.0 sacks in his first three seasons in the league. The Chargers already have a steady defense with future Hall of Famer Khalil Mack, who is coming back from injury next week, and Tuli Tuipulotu. So far in 2025, Oweh has tallied a Pro Football Focus pass-rush grade of 72.3, which is 30th among edge rushers with at least 75 attempts.
Odafe Oweh brings a really good defense to a Chargers team that has been lacking since Khalil Mack got injured.
Chargers Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter really likes his defensive backs with Khalil Mack, Tuipulotu, and the recent addition of Odafe Oweh.
The Chargers’ defense got a whole lot better now.
