With Justin Herbert and Omarion Hampton and the Chargers playing in the spotlight on primetime Monday night against the Eagles, the team gave their fans something to cheer for.
The visiting Philadelphia Eagles scored 10 points in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 19. In overtime, Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker nailed the field goal to give the Chargers a 22-19 lead. Defense led by San Diego native Tony Jefferson helped seal the game for the Chargers with an interception in overtime.
Both teams had lots of turnovers, most of which came in the 2nd quarter. The Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles had 3 turnovers in the 2nd quarter alone. According to ESPN, that was the most turnovers in a quarter since week 8 of the 2013 NFL season, when Denver and Washington combined for seven.
The crazy thing about the game was the big play the Chargers had against the Eagles. The Eagles’ offense faced a third-and-1; the Chargers defense showed pressure, with Da’Shawn Hand dropping into coverage, and intercepted a Jalen Hurts pass. Chargers rookie Jamaree Caldwell forced another turnover by recovering a fumble from Jalen Hurts.
With the Chargers’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the team remains in the hunt with the Denver Broncos for the AFC West title.
With the Chiefs eliminated from the AFC West race, the division will have a new winner for the first time in over a decade.
