The Chargers have hired an offensive coordinator, and Chargers fans were definitely pretty excited about this move.
The Chargers recently hired former Miami Dolphins head Coach Mike McDaniel as the team’s newest offensive coordinator.
Here are three reasons why hiring Mike McDaniel will benefit the team.
1) Ladd McConkey’s Potential
Ladd McConkey’s second season in the NFL didn’t go great for him. Competition with Quentin Johnston and the return of Keenan Allen may have hindered the expansion of his involvement.
With McDaniel calling the plays, McConkey should be able to take a step forward from his rookie season, not back.
2) Omarion Hampton
The exciting thing about having Mike McDaniel is that he’s going to help Omarion Hampton develop into one of the best running backs in the league. Hampton put up 545 yards and four touchdowns on 124 carries this past season.
McDaniel is not only creative in the passing attack. He uses the run exceptionally well, plays balanced football, and with that in mind, that should help Omarion Hampton out in a big way next season.
3) Oronde Gadsden II Becomes a True TE
Gadsden had a great 2nd year in the NFL. With McDaniel coming in, Gadsden is going to be a really better Tight End for the Chargers next season.
He was targeted 69 times last season, bringing in 49 receptions for 664 yards and three touchdowns.
The Chargers are bringing in a true offensive coordinator, whom they lacked this past season.
Having Mike McDaniel in as the team’s newest offensive coordinator will definitely help the Chargers’ offense a lot in 2026.
