The Chargers or Chiefs may steal Buccaneer’s top trade target wide receiver, Courtland Sutton. Multiple injuries have been occurring across the league, especially after Monday Night’s debacle leading to Tampa Bay losing Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. Sutton is surprisingly being brought up in trade rumors again even though the Broncos aren’t looking to deal him. However, he has a new contract similar to Amari Cooper’s situation making it easier for any roster.
Originally selected in the 2018 NFL Draft, the SMU product was hoping to establish itself as a reliable pass catcher. Sutton only has 21 receptions for 277 yards including two touchdowns, these numbers are unusual so far. The Pro Bowler was struggling to get off rhythm despite getting a better signal-caller in Bo Nix, so if he doesn’t receive the targets, it might be wise to see what other teams are offering. Nix has thrown three interceptions attempting to target Sutton so it might be a chemistry issue.
However, many teams like the 49ers are going through a “pass catcher armageddon,” after losing Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. The Broncos want a youth movement and Sutton is still a part of their plan, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if they move on with the likes of Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vele. Sutton may be a dark horse trade candidate if Denver is willing to sell as opposed to other candidates like Diontae Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins and Cooper Kupp.

Postseason Help
The Chiefs may be unbeaten but the wide receiving room is getting thinner and probably by the playoffs come around. JuJu Smith-Schuster is the latest player to get an injury so it leaves Patrick Mahomes scrambling for help from rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson. Kansas City walked in this season not anticipating that even an aging Travis Kelce would be struggling but to no fault of his own, Mahomes hasn’t been the same quarterback the past two years. The idea of trading for a receiver to give Mahomes another warm body in the pocket would be efficient to boost their chances in this year’s postseason as the stakes are higher this year in the AFC.
However, it might be difficult to pull this off considering the Broncos would hesitate to trade their best receiver to the defending Super Bowl Champs. Anything is possible for the right price since the Broncos are getting younger, it wouldn’t be too big of a gamble for the Chiefs. They probably won’t for the grand slam like Kupp but a Sutton trade would at least last long with three solid receivers of him, Worthy and Rashee Rice when he returns.
Throw the Football
Justin Herbert has been banged up this season dealing with injuries to no fault of his own since he doesn’t have any consistent receivers. It makes him stay in the pocket longer than what any quarterback wants but they didn’t get a reliable replacement since losing Mike Williams and Keenan Allen in one offseason. Rookie Ladd McConkey is the only wideout with some promise but he’s going through growing pains. Will Dissly is Herbert’s security blanket but they need someone with a deep threat to scare the opposing secondaries with a consistent catching game.
Sutton may have been slow but the thought of him playing with Herbert could probably improve his game. It would give Herbert more comfort to throw the football in pass-rushing situations for a quick pass. He isn’t the perfect blockbuster receiver but he’s better than Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston to be a chain mover.
