The Chargers’ assistant general manager could be a one-and-done in Los Angeles if he impresses the Raiders enough.
After the Chargers hired Joe Hortiz to be their new general manager, one of his first hires to fill out his staff was bringing Chad Alexander to Los Angeles. Alexander had been the Director of Player Personnel for the New York Jets from 2019 through 2023 and had previous been with Hortiz in Baltimore where the former had spent over 20 years in various scouting and front office roles.
Now, after just one season in LA, Alexander is already receiving interview requests for vacant general manager positions. His first came this week as it was reported the Las Vegas Raiders requested an interview.
#Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander was requested to interview for the #Raiders vacant GM job, source said.
The first big hire of GM Joe Hortiz, Alexander is a rising member of the LA front office and was a participant in the NFL’s Accelerator Program in Dallas.

The initial interest in Alexander is largely in part due to how successful the Chargers were in turning around the franchise from a five-win team in 2023 to an 11-win team this season despite a large overhaul of the roster this past offseason. Alexander, along with Hortiz and Harbaugh, were able to navigate the Chargers’ murky cap situation to put together not only a competitive roster, but one that managed to exceed most expectations.
Finding receiver Ladd McConkey, tackle Joe Alt, and cornerbacks Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart — all of which could be starters together in 2025 — was one heck of an achievement. Now, with a full offseason ahead of them for the first time since joining the Chargers, they’ll be tasked with continuing to build on a very strong foundation.
That is, unless Alexander ends up landing a general manager job elsewhere. If that’s the case, expect Hortiz to already have another phenomenal candidate ready to replace his second-in-command.
