Blake Corum spent four seasons playing for Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. The head coach could bring the star running back with him to the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to DraftKings Sportsbook, the Chargers are a +190 betting favorite to draft Corum. They’re ahead of the New York Giants (+330), Dallas Cowboys (+750), and Minnesota Vikings (+850).
Just don’t expect Harbaugh to make that choice Thursday night. Corum is a +10000 longshot to go with the team’s No. 5 pick. The Chargers could choose him with the No. 37 selection on Day 2.
NFL.com’s Chad Reuter predicted the Chargers would make Corum the first running back off the board early in the second round.
Harbaugh rode Corum to a national championship before he bolted for the NFL. Corum found the end zone in each of Michigan’s 15 wins, scoring 28 touchdowns in his senior season.
Last month, Corum told Kay Adams that it’d be “crazy” to reunite with Harbaugh in L.A.
“We’ve been through a lot in the last four years, and we ended on a bang,” Corum said. “If I picked up the phone and I heard his voice on the other side, just know we are going to go win a Super Bowl just like we won a natty.”
Harbaugh replaced star running back Austin Ekeler by poaching Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins from his brother’s Baltimore Ravens. Given the head coach’s ground-and-pound tendencies, the Chargers could still draft another rusher next week.
Yet DraftKings knows the Michigan connection could spark betting activity even at unflattering odds. Although the Chargers have their long-term quarterback in Justin Herbert, they’re listed behind just four teams at +900 to select J.J. McCarthy.
