The Chargers continued their vow to bring back as many players from their 2024 roster as possible, agreeing on new contracts with linebacker Troy Dye and wide receiver Jalen Reagor on Wednesday, mere hours before the opening of the free-agent signing period officially began.
Dye reportedly received a two-year extension reportedly worth up to $8 million with incentives.
Terms of Reagor’s contract were not released.
Monday, the first day of the NFL’s two-day legal tampering period for pending free agents, began with the Chargers retaining the services of outside linebacker Khalil Mack, center Bradley Bozeman, punter JK Scott and defensive lineman Teair Tart. They also re-signed defensive back Elijah Molden on March 5.
In addition, the Chargers on Monday reportedly agreed to terms with cornerback Donte Jackson and running back Najee Harris, both formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They announced they had cut running back Gus Edwards five days after releasing outside linebacker Joey Bosa, their longest-tenured player.
The Chargers announced the agreements with Jackson and Harris on Wednesday.
“We want them all back,” Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said during his season-ending session with reporters in January, emphasizing that their priority would be to keep Mack in the fold.
Dye, a 28-year-old former Norco High standout, set a career high with 57 tackles this past season, including 34 solo. He played a key role in the Chargers’ improved defensive play during the 2024 season, when they gave up only 17.7 points per game, tops in the NFL.
Dye joined the Chargers after four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and a three-time All-Pac-12 career at Oregon.
Reagor, 26, joined the Chargers last season after two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and one year each with the Vikings and New England Patriots. He played eight games, including two starts, and caught seven passes for 100 yards this past season with the Chargers.
Reagor began last season on the Chargers’ practice squad, but joined their active roster in November.
Several key Chargers players from last season’s roster remained unsigned as Wednesday afternoon’s official signing period opened at 1 p.m. PT, including defensive lineman Morgan Fox, linebacker Denzel Perryman, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. and special teams ace Nick Niemann.
