Cardinals, Bears May Connect On Massive Blockbuster Trade

October 16, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Despite coming off a miraculous win over the Washington Commanders, the Chicago Bears could look for more defensive help and trade for defensive lineman Calais Campbell at some point during the season. According to Pro Football Focus, they think that the Arizona Cardinals could trade Campbell in a low-stakes deal since he’s been able to stay consistent even though the team has had its woes this season. At the bottom of the NFC West division, it will be an uphill battle for the Cardinals to pull themselves out to 2-4, and it might be smarter to trade Campbell, who only signed a one-year contract. Even at age 39, Campbell has been an above-average player and could be a well-rounded defensive athlete for a contender for the next two seasons.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the former Miami product is one of the oldest active players in the league. Campbell is still surprising a ton of teams across the NFL, so if the Cardinals lose their next two games this season, which is likely, then they should be able to make the veteran available for a possible trade. With that, it’s easy to see why the Bears could be a fit since they have one of the worst pass-rushing units other than the Dallas Cowboys. Despite having a ton of depth between Dayo Odeyingbo and Montez Sweat, they haven’t lived up to the moment.

If the Bears trade for Campbell, they should, and it wouldn’t put Odeyingbo or Sweat’s starting job in danger. It would add more fuel to the fire, which they need to give quarterback Caleb Williams plenty of opportunities to stay out there with his offense.

Possible Next Teams

Washington Commanders

After signing free agent Drake Jackson to their starting squad, it’s clear that the Washington Commanders are far from done in adding defensive playmakers. Despite their loss to the Bears, they had a few costly turnover mistakes on offense, but that doesn’t mean they should avoid continuing to salvage the defense. If anyone can add a spark to this defense, it’s Calais Campbell.

The Commanders are building an old-school roster ever since they signed Von Miller and re-signed Bobby Wagner to a one-year deal. This is to maximize the success that quarterback Jayden Daniels has been having down the stretch. Campbell is a viable trade piece if the Commanders want to make a strong push in the postseason.

Dallas Cowboys

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have one of the worst pass-rushing units in the NFL today. They can’t afford to ignore this, and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus continues to cost this team winnable games, including their loss to the Panthers. Ever since they traded Micah Parsons, the momentum and aura have been lost, even though James Houston and Marist Liufau are reliable in situational moments. The same can’t be said about Sam Williams or Dante Fowler Jr., since both have been inadequate.

Campbell won’t drastically strengthen this defensive roster, but should give them some type of life at least.

Los Angeles Chargers

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games in the trenches, so it’s hard to see the Chargers not make a trade for at least a defensive difference maker by next month. Since they lost Khalil Mack, they’ve been able to acquire Odafe Oweh to bring some much-needed relief to the linebacker room. However, they need defensive front help. With Da’Shawn Hand on IR and Scott Matlock nursing an injury, Campbell could fill the hole.
