Cam Hart, Daiyan Henley among Chargers working off to side at OTAs

Cam Hart, the team’s 2024 fifth-round pick, suffered a torn labrum against the Texans in the wild card loss and remains uncleared after undergoing surgery in January.

The Chargers commenced their OTAs on Tuesday along with 19 other NFL teams. For the most part, attendance was solid outside of three players. They were left tackle Rashawn Slater, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins, and veteran edge rusher Bud Dupree. These are voluntary of course so nothing to really write home about just yet.

As for players that did attend, per The Athletic’s Daniel Popper, a handful of them spent the opening session working off the side away from the main group. They were cornerbacks Cam Hart and Deane Leonard, safety Elijah Molden, linebacker Daiyan Henley, and UDFA wide receiver Luke Grimm.

For those who are unaware, Hart suffered a torn labrum against the Houston Texans in their wild card matchup. He had surgery to repair the labrum later in January but the team has yet to fully clear him for all football activities. Per Popper, Hart does expect to be back and cleared in time for minicamp which begins on June 10.

In his rookie season, Hart started six games and notched 37 total tackles, seven pass breakups, and one forced fumble.

Molden is also recovering from his season-ending injury he sustained late in the regular season against the Buccaneers. Seeing as the team swiftly signed him to a three-year extension this offseason, that likely means the short-term prognosis for Molden’s injury is very positive.

Lastly, there was no word on why Henley worked off to the side but I believe it’s safe to assume he’s working through some minor bumps and bruises.

All in all, not a bad start to OTAs for the Chargers.
