Breakout Safety Signs Contract Extension With Chargers

Elijah Molden Contract

Four-year veteran safety Elijah Molden signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Chargers. Molden, a former third-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers but previously played for the Tennessee Titans.

Elijah Molden, Los Angeles Chargers, Agree to Contract

After spending the first three years of his career with the Titans, the team traded him to the Los Angeles Chargers for a 2026 seventh-round pick. This move paid dividends for the Chargers, as the safety appeared in 15 games, making 12 starts while recording three interceptions, seven passes defended, 75 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and a 75.6 PFF grade, easily the best of his career. Unfortunately, his breakout season came to a premature end when he suffered a broken fibula late in December. In his absence, the Chargers made the playoffs but went one-and-done to the Houston Texans.

Elijah Molden originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tennessee Titans, the rookie appeared in all 16 games during his inaugural season while recording seven starts. While on the field, Molden finished with one interception, four passes defended, 62 tackles, three tackles-for-loss, and a 62.0 PFF grade, the 64th-best mark out of 116 eligible players.

Molden didn’t have a real chance to build on his promising rookie campaign, as injuries limited the Washington product to just two games. During his truncated season, Molden recorded just five tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and one quarterback hit. While he returned to the field in 2023, he couldn’t recapture his previous form. Appearing in 15 games, the veteran recorded one interception, four passes defended, 73 tackles, and one tackle-for-loss.

Since signing his rookie contract, Elijah Molden has appeared in 48 games while making 28 starts. While on the field, the Washington product has recorded five interceptions, 15 passes defended, two forced fumbles, 215 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits. While he made the playoffs in 2024, he’s still looking for his first playoff win.
