Breaking: Two-Time Pro Bowler Could Be On “Thin Ice” – 3 Potential Destinations

May 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

trevon diggs thin ice

Dallas Cowboys two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs is likely on thin ice this upcoming regular season. According to several reports, many believe this could be the year that Dallas decides to cut ties if Diggs can’t stay healthy or be productive for the team’s secondary. Last season, the team had one of the worst pass secondary units in the league after losing Diggs and DaRon Bland in one campaign. The good news is that Bland is on a rookie contract, so they don’t have to worry about his future just yet, as Diggs could be on the chopping block if Jerry Jones doesn’t see progress, which he wants the cornerback to improve during rehab.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Alabama product had a promising rookie year before being plagued by injuries in that year. He got better the following season, where he had a breakout campaign, recording 42 solo tackles and 21 passes defensed. Diggs formed a capable secondary group pairing with Bland and former veteran Stephon Gilmore, who they brought in for a visit. It wouldn’t be surprising if Dallas signs Gilmore since they need all of the help in the secondary unit if they lose Diggs during the 2025 season.

It’s worth mentioning that the team could facilitate a trade as well since they’re about to give a massive contract to Micah Parsons. Also, they got a promising 2025 draft pick, Shavon Revel Jr., who could take his spot, so here are three teams that could take a chance on Diggs.

Next Possible Teams

Baltimore Ravens

It’s never a bad time to add more cornerbacks to strengthen a team’s roster. Last season, the Baltimore Ravens had a questionable secondary unit where veteran Marlon Humphrey was carrying most of the weight. Even though Brandon Stephens had his moments, especially during the 2023 season, it wasn’t enough to earn him a new contract in Baltimore. Head Coach John Harbaugh made a crucial switch in their safety unit, and the secondary game got better once Ar’Darius Washington gave some relief.

However, they should know Humphrey is aging and he will need another cornerback to shed the success of what this Ravens secondary unit is looking for. Diggs might be running out of gas, but he could salvage this unit as a backup behind Nate Wiggins to reduce the stress.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Chargers’ defensive trenches might be one of the worst yet after losing Poona Ford and releasing Joey Bosa. The team didn’t get a capable pass rusher yet to help Khalil Mack get after the quarterback. They might have to rely on the secondary, and if that’s the case, the Chargers should trade for someone like Diggs.

2024 draft pick Cam Hart is still adjusting to life in the league, and the presence of Diggs could help him. The Chargers did well finding a replacement after losing Kristian Fulton to the Chiefs by signing Donte Jackson, but Diggs could take on a rotational role and help this Chargers defense.

Kansas City Chiefs

Just like the Chargers, the Chiefs’ secondary unit will look dramatically different. After losing L’Jarius Sneed, it was always the anticipation that the secondary wouldn’t be the same, and that could be the case for the safeties department. Since they lost Justin Reid, the only replacement was Mike Edwards, and he’s way past his prime. Diggs won’t make much of a difference, but he has similar experience to Trent McDuffie and could help disrupt the aerial attack.
