The Dallas Cowboys have taken advantage of the New York Jets’ fire sale, acquiring defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in a trade. According to the breaking news, the Cowboys are far from over this season despite losing to the Cardinals in a nightmare loss by snagging one of the best run-stuffers in the league. Dallas had two extra first-round picks, but used a 2026 second-round pick, a future 2027 first-round pick, and Mazi Smith in exchange for Williams. This means the Cowboys have been playing the long game ever since trading away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, but even though they got Kenny Clark in that trade in August, the latest trade could put his position in danger.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former UCLA product has been struggling to stop the run. There was still excitement from Dallas fans when the team acquired Clark, but after recording just one sack in the past nine games this 2025 season, his production has dipped. With that, the Cowboys have the worst defense in the league by a large margin, and Clark was supposed to be the man who would help recently extended Osa Odighizuwa. The Cowboys could release Clark and make room in their salary cap savings, as Williams is eligible for a new extension after the season either way, and it’s likely that Dallas will proceed with Williams rather than Clark to pair with Odighizuwa.
