Breaking: Former Giants Second Round Pick Named Trade Candidate

August 11, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have too many offensive weapons, wide receiver Sterling Shepard could be a trade candidate this 2025 regular season. According to Bleacher Report, they still believe Shepard could be on the trade block despite just signing him last offseason to reunite him with quarterback Baker Mayfield. However, there might not be much of a significant role in this offense anymore since other weapons like Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and 2025 draft pick Emeka Egbuka will receive most of the looks. Originally selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma product signed a new extension, but after putting up just 334 receiving yards and one touchdown on 32 receptions, it seems easier for the Buccaneers to move on from him than to keep the receiver around.

Shepard became one of the main contributors for the New York Giants early in his career, but he was slowly losing his spark, so the Giants decided it was best to move on. As Jalen McMillan is turning into another promising wide receiver as well, and after getting Trey Palmer, it would leave Shepard at the bottom of the depth chart. Even though the Buccaneers won’t get much in return as far as the salary cap, they could still dangle him on the trade block to see what they potentially get as far as draft picks. Here are some possible destinations for Shepard if the Buccaneers move on.

Breaking: Former Giants Second Round Pick Sterling Shepard Named Trade Candidate – 4 Possible Destinations

Potential Next Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

This would be a low-risk trade that might make plenty of sense for the Los Angeles Chargers. After signing Keenan Allen, the Chargers still need a fresh veteran in their receiving corps as they can’t afford to go backwards. Allen is nothing but nostalgia, so it’s better to get someone like Shepard to help Allen in the aerial attack. Los Angeles should continue to build around Justin Herbert with weapons that might last long, and that includes Tre Harris, KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Ladd McConkey.

Despite that, Shepard should give the Chargers some additional juice if Allen falters.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have gone through several former veterans like Odell Beckham, Diontae Johnson and Nelson Agholor. It’s time for them to solidify their WR3 spot, even though they’re not in the market for a wide receiver. DeAndre Hopkins is good, but how many years does he have left in the tank? He could be in Baltimore just to chase a Super Bowl and retire, so they should trade for Shepard to give them four capable weapons for Lamar Jackson.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have two high-level pass catchers in George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb. Jalen Tolbert is entering the final year of his contract, and since Dallas has been slow in the Micah Parsons contract situation, there’s no guarantee that he will be back, especially if he doesn’t live up to the standards for the Cowboys. They could get a medium risk option like the Cowboys always fall in love with, and get Shepard if he becomes available.

Washington Commanders

However, the Washington Commanders could soon be in the market for a wide receiver. Terry McLaurin is holding in, but it doesn’t mean he will be happy. The Commanders can’t afford to have that distraction, and trading for someone like Shepard should give Deebo Samuel, Luke McCaffrey and Michael Gallup plenty of breathing room.
