Breaking: Former Cowboys Legend “Eyeing” NFL Comeback – Anyone Will Take a Chance?

Dallas Cowboys legend wideout Michael Gallup is eyeing an NFL comeback this season after his release from the Las Vegas Raiders. According to reports, the wide receiver was on the reserve/retired list after joining the Raiders since parting ways with the Cowboys. Originally selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the former Colorado State product wants to suit back up for another season in the league after abruptly retiring last year. Gallup began his career with the Cowboys where he had his best season in 2019, recording 66 catches for 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

However, the wideout hasn’t been the same after suffering a season-ending injury in the 2021-2022. Gallup stayed on the team for the following two seasons but he didn’t put big numbers, only catching 34 passes and 418 yards and two touchdowns. The veteran is no longer in his prime but he was a nice pass-catching option for the Cowboys offense pairing with star CeeDee Lamb. However, the wide receiver market is deep so he might not earn a long-term deal with any team but one to prove that he still has nice hands and vision to help an offense’s pass attack.

With that, the veteran will probably sign a one-year “prove it” deal with a roster before the 2025 season and these five teams could take a chance.

Next Possible Teams

Washington Commanders

This could be another opportunity for head coach Dan Quinn to reunite with former Cowboy. The team has done a good job of doing that with Noah Brown on a one-year deal last year while Terry McLaurin and Dyami Brown were the main pass-catchers. After trading for Deebo Samuel, the Commanders should be in the market for another wide receiver to help Jayden Daniels’ passing game.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers need a new wide receiver in the worst way possible. Even though the team has money to burn, head coach Jim Harbaugh has been reluctant to sign a consistent receiver other than drafting Ladd McConkey. Meanwhile, Quentin Johnston hasn’t been living up to expectations and Joshua Palmer is a free agent, so a new wide receiver should be prioritized for quarterback Justin Herbert. Gallup won’t do much but it gives the offense another target to help Herbert to thrive in the pocket.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are in the same boat as the team is bringing back Derek Carr for what could be his last year in New Orleans. Rashid Shaheed is coming back but there hasn’t been word on Chris Olaves‘ status on how he would feel midseason if the Saints aren’t contenders again. The Saints got away with bolstering Marquez Valdes-Scantling and perhaps they could do the same with Gallup.

Kansas City Chiefs

As for the Chiefs, the team is bracing for another offseason of legal trouble. 2024 first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy is the latest player to find himself in some trouble after a domestic violence incident. Rashee Rice dealt with those issues and even though they’re re-signing Marquise Brown, they should stack up on wide receiver talent on bargain deals sooner rather than later. Gallup won’t earn the starting job but they could use him in deep route situations since the team doesn’t have the cap space to afford a high-profile pass catcher.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are in the same boat in terms of salary cap space. Nelson Agholor is a free agent and since he’s aging, they probably won’t re-sign him back. Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman need help with some separation in the aerial attack and getting a third-man wideout is mandatory for Baltimore. Gallup won’t earn that spot but he could fight for WR4 and make a few crucial plays.
