After making a miraculous return last season, the Detroit Lions could look to put wide receiver Tim Patrick on the trade block. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the Lions should move on since Patrick has become an afterthought at training camp. Since they got wide receivers Isaac TeSlaa and Dominic Lovett in this year’s draft, they’ve been impressing the coaching staff, which makes Patrick expendable. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Utah product is getting up there in age, so he might not have that many years in production left in the tank.
Quarterback Jared Goff has plenty of weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond, but they’ll likely be pushing for an upgrade to boost their chances of a Super Bowl contention. After recording 33 catches for 394 receiving yards and three touchdowns, it might not be enough for Patrick to secure another contract to stay in Detroit. Despite him signing a one-year deal this offseason, the Lions could dangle him on the trade block during the 2025 campaign if options like TeSlaa and Lovett emerge as reliable options as a WR3. If the wide receiver can’t contribute consistently, they could make him available for a trade, and these contenders may take advantage.

Potential Next Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
Despite signing Keenan Allen to a contract, the Los Angeles Chargers still should be looking for at least one more proven wide receiver to help the pass-attack for quarterback Justin Herbert. Allen is past his prime and washed up, similar to Mike Williams, so it’s concerning that the Chargers are going backwards. Quentin Johnston hasn’t been showing any promise that he will be a consistent weapon for this offense, so that leaves 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey and two unproven receivers in Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith. Patrick might be on the older side, but he could be a safe option to lean on in moments to move the chains.
Kansas City Chiefs
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs need a new wide receiver for at least a couple of weeks while they wait for Rashee Rice’s return from serving a potential suspension. They don’t need the best of the best, but someone who could keep the wide receiving corps afloat behind Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown. Patrick could put on a clinic similar to how Justin Watson did last year before moving on to sign with the Texans this offseason.
New Orleans Saints
Since the battle will be between Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler, it’s hard to put them in the fire when it’s better to get as many weapons for them. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are the only solid options, while Brandin Cooks is too past his prime to make an impact. Patrick might be any different, but if these two can work together, they might strive to make each other better as slant options.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens don’t need another wide receiver, but when you share an AFC with the Chiefs, Bills and Chargers, it’s best to get as many options as possible to put the team in the best spot this 2025 season. DeAndre Hopkins is impressing at camp while not taking much away from Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. Patrick could be a solid WR4 for this offense.
