Breaking: Dolphins Seven-Time Pro Bowl Versatile Weapon On Trade Block

April 17, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Jalen Ramsey Trade Block

Dolphins seven-time Pro Bowl safety Jalen Ramsey is officially on the trade block as the two agreed to move on this offseason. According to the breaking news, the time has come to end for the veteran as Ramsey will be looking for a new home. Originally selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Florida State product began his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, hoping to become a versatile defender in the league, helping them build a foundational defense. With him on the Jaguars, the team went to the postseason with one of the best defenses, but that slowly came apart in the end as the Jaguars were depleting.

Ramsey found his rhythm again with the Los Angeles Rams, leading the defense to their first Super Bowl win. Despite earning an extension with the Rams, making him the highest-paid defensive back in league history at the time, it was time for the Rams to move on and trade him to the Dolphins. While Ramsey did agree to a contract restructure, the team and he were able to agree to a contract extension this past September to put him atop the pecking order. However, the Dolphins trading the veteran would make the team take a huge cap hit of a $25 million dead cap charge.

It’s a heavy price, but these five teams could wind up taking a bullseye on the veteran who still has a lot of upside.

Possible Next Teams

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders surprised everyone last season, making it to the NFC Championship Game. The team is in the best position to win a Super Bowl under the Jayden Daniels era, so this means they should sign as much talent to maximize his contract. Sooner or later, the Commanders will have to pay up if they want to keep Daniels for the long term. Safety Quan Martin had a few bright spots, but it’s time for the Commanders to bolster their secondary when they have someone like Marshon Lattimore at the cornerback position.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens might not fit the billing, but the team could use another safety if Ar’Darius Washington can’t handle his own end of the bargain alongside a talented Kyle Hamilton. There’s no such thing as having too much talent in one secondary room since Marlon Humphrey and 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins are solid. Ramsey could help steer the ship to finally land a Super Bowl.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers themselves got much farther than expected last season, even though they’re still rebuilding. It’s hard to indulge if the team doesn’t find a replacement for Asante Samuel Jr., who is still on the market. Ramsey might be aging, but since the Chargers have the cap space to afford him, the Chargers should be able to change this defense that’s already in rebuild mode to help Derwin James Jr. and Alohi Gilman.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs will also make some type of change in their secondary unit. Despite signing Krisitian Fulton to provide some insurance, Trent McDuffie could use some star power after filling in the shoes of a talented L’Jarius Sneed last offseason. Ramsey could alter the conversation from the team losing Justin Reid to having a capable secondary room that’s getting better.

New Orleans Saints

For the Saints, they’ve done a phenomenal job turning this defense into something potentially explosive. Perhaps, general manager Mickey Loomis could pinch more pennies to improve the roster. After signing Reid and maybe trading Tyrann Mathieu this offseason, the Saints need another playmaker in the secondary for a cornerback unit that’s been depleted.
