BREAKING: “Disappointing” Former Fourth Rounder On Trade Block

April 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

dameon pierce trade block

One the most disappointing draft picks, former fourth-rounder running back Dameon Pierce will likely be on the trade block this NFL Draft. According to a report, the future was bright for Pierce, but it’s looking like the Texans will be open to trading him this offseason. It’s obvious that Joe Mixon will be the Texans’ cowbell starter for CJ Stroud’s offense, but as he’s aging, the team will need another capable backup to help in the backfield. While Pierce had his moments, he’s been a disappointment for the Houston Texans, recording just 416 rushing yards while losing his job to former starter Devin Singletary.

The Texans were more than patient enough with Pierce’s development, but the team is better off moving on without him. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Florida product became the starter for the roster, leading all running backs on the team in his rookie year, recording 939 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Pierce had a lot of upsides to be the starter, but slowly, he couldn’t remain consistent, which is why the Texans traded for Mixon during last year’s offseason and they’re set at the running back position.

While they have their starter, they will look to replace Pierce. With that, these three teams may be able to revive the former 2022 Draft pick if the Texans trade him.

3 Logical Fits

Baltimore Ravens

Last season, the Baltimore Ravens were able to repair their backfield room after dealing with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. With the addition of Derrick Henry, they got their guy for the long-term success of this ground game, as they’re one wide receiver away from having an explosive offense. While they’re already exploding, the Ravens could use another running back to stabilize their group. Keaton Mitchell came back into the lineup after suffering a season-ending injury, but he’s yet to make any type of noise that he’ll last a full season.

While the Ravens have high hopes for Mitchell, it wouldn’t hurt to trade for Pierce since he’s still on the rookie contract. The move wouldn’t hurt their cap space, as there is nothing wrong with “too” many running backs. Meanwhile, Justice Hill is more of a “dump off” running back artist that is only effective in screen and play action. However, the team could use Pierce’s appearance to see how he could adjust to new scenery and if that’s really what he needs to revive his career.

Los Angeles Chargers

For the Chargers, they’re back to square one to test the waters, signing Najee Harris to a one-year deal. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games with a physical ground game, and it doesn’t get any more physical than Harris. If he can stay healthy, the team should be in serious business to help quarterback Justin Herbert.

However, they have a hole in their running back department. After releasing Gus Edwards this offseason, the Chargers need to find a replacement. Pierce might not start, but he could be a worthy consolidation prize for the time being.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are in the same spot as well. However, Alvin Kamara is a solid runner when he wants to be in certain moments. He has a lot of juice left in the tank and no way of slowing down, but he needs a new backup after releasing Jamaal Williams. Pierce could fit into Kellen Moore’s new offensive scheme and revive his career with a coach that could focus on the run this upcoming season.
