After a busy offseason, it could be far from over as the Dallas Cowboys could put wide receiver Jalen Tolbert on the trade block before the 2025 regular season. Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport believes that the Cowboys could send Tolbert, who is in the final year of his contract, to a new team. Originally selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former South Alabama product became one of the most dependable receivers for the Cowboys ever since they lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott, and they didn’t have an adequate superstar weapon alongside CeeDee Lamb. However, they have their answer in George Pickens, and they could keep him if he excels well this upcoming season, but the guarantee probably won’t be the same for Tolbert.
The wideout expects to have a breakout season regardless of the circumstances of him being a WR3. The implication of that is they would have to pay either Tolbert or Pickens in one offseason, and with already extended Lamb and Prescott, they have little financial freedom to pull off a deal. It would be a loss either way if they keep Pickens and decide to let Tolbert test the free agent market, as they’ll lack a legitimate WR3 next offseason. The Cowboys should probably take advantage of this opportunity and sell Tolbert sooner rather than later, since he’s been playing at his peak.
It’d be better to know now if he has a future with the Cowboys. Even if both sides don’t want a departure, these two teams could make an offer that the Cowboys can’t turn down.

Helping Ladd McConkey
If the Los Angeles Chargers want to make it into the thick of the postseason next year, they must address the wide receiver unit. While they drafted Tre Harris and signed veteran Mike Williams to salvage the unit, these two might not be enough for quarterback Justin Herbert to excel on the field. The Chargers were close to getting an explosive name in DK Metcalf this offseason before signing with the Steelers on a better deal. This kind of trade target is something that the Chargers should be looking for, but getting someone like Tolbert seems more logical in the team’s situation.
2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the only reliable set of hands, but since he’s entering the second year of his NFL career, he’s going to need help down the stretch if they want to see continued success from him. Tolbert is obviously slot-friendly and could be another slant route threat alongside McConkey.
More Weapons for Mahomes
Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t looking for a wide receiver, but it’s hard to imagine they walk in with the talent they have now. Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice will be the permanent starters, barring any circumstances of more offseason legal trouble. Despite signing a one-year deal, Marquise Brown is reportedly on the trade block and might not last more than a season with the Chiefs. Tolbert provides more long-term commitment, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes never fails to turn a receiver from good to dominant.
