Breaking: Commanders “Hail Mary Hero” On Trade Block

April 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

noah brown trade

The Washington Commanders could open the gates to deal wide receiver Noah Brown in a trade during the NFL Draft. According to a FOX Sports source, they believe the Commanders will trade the wideout, as the team’s receiving room has tons of talent. Despite signing him to another one-year deal, it hasn’t stopped the Commanders from trading for Deebo Samuel and bringing Michael Gallup out of retirement. As the wide receiver is getting too overcrowded, it might be best for the Commanders to trade him elsewhere to get some draft capital in return. The team trading Brown would make room for 2024 third-rounder Luke McCaffrey to have more opportunities to showcase that he could possibly become their No. 3 receiver.

It’s still surprising that the Commanders brought back Brown if they didn’t see a future with him, as the team continues to salvage the pass-catching unit for quarterback Jayden Daniels. Brown should receive some type of interest towards the end of the NFL Draft as he’s still a capable chain-mover that could excel in crucial moments, especially in his “Hail Mary” catch he caught against the Chicago Bears. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product began his career with the Dallas Cowboys, starting as a reliable wideout behind CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper.

It was a head-scratcher that the Cowboys didn’t retain Brown, at least on a one-year deal. However, he got a new opportunity to show that he’s proven to be effective in C.J Stroud’s offense in Houston, and the journeyman may join these three teams.

Possible Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

Last season, the team had one of the worst pass-catching units in the league. The Chargers rolled the dice on guys like DJ Chark in free agency as the only addition that year. It seems like it’s the same result for the team this offseason, as Mike Williams isn’t going to top more than 1,000 receiving yards. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is still quarterback Justin Herbert’s best weapon on the roster, and it will take more than him to give this team a legitimate chance in the AFC playoff picture.

Noah Brown might not be the best exploding receiver, but he does have a lot of upside that can move the chains for Herbert. If he faces pressure in the pocket, the quarterback could use him in those moments to make those splash plays. Even though they need an elite weapon, the Chargers’ unit might be stabilized if they add Brown as an “under the radar” type playmaker to help McConkey in the aerial attack.

Kansas City Chiefs

For the Chiefs, it’s hard to dissect what the future holds for Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. If they can stay out of trouble, these two weapons will be long-term for Patrick Mahomes while everyone holds their breath. Despite re-signing Marquise Brown, the Chiefs could use a replacement since losing Justin Watson. He had a few bright spots and helped Mahomes in certain moments, so Brown could take that spot and bring out the best in him.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are far from being playoff contenders, but the wide receiver room looks to be in good shape. However, the team will likely draft another wideout, but the team might benefit from Brown’s presence. He might not start over Xavier Legette or Jalen Coker, but he could be a temporary fill for when Adam Thielen retires, so the Panthers don’t have that hole.
