Despite missing just one practice, the Washington Commanders’ wide receiver Terry McLaurin could holdout for a new contract, which may signal a trade. According to several reports, it surprised many fans and insiders across the league that McLaurin didn’t show up to practice this week. While it’s only voluntary and only one offseason workout, it could lead to more absences, which may be due to his contract situation. After having one of the best campaigns last season, led by sensation Jayden Daniels, McLaurin will likely be willing to hold out longer and may be open to a trade if the team doesn’t pay up.
Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product has always been the WR1 for the Commanders, no matter the situation. However, the contract situation between him and the Commanders is coming at a worse time. The Commanders have a great thing going in their organization since the team was sold and a new head coach in Dan Quinn, the roster still needs to mortgage their future, and that includes McLaurin. The wide receiver had some preliminary talks with the team, but it’s unclear what stage they’re in as far as the contract negotiations.
Daniels still has three more years on his rookie contract, and barring that, if he doesn’t have an unproductive season, it could be hard to put a huge price tag on two superstars. However, McLaurin did finish the season second in the league with 13 touchdown receptions, setting a new organization record. It shouldn’t be surprising if the All-Pro continues to hold out, and these three teams could take advantage.

Possible Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers still have one of the worst pass-catchers in the league, but if they acquire McLaurin, the whole offense changes. Quarterback Justin Herbert must be put in the best situation to win ball games, and the running backs won’t single-handedly save the Chargers. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh should realize that games are only won when Herbert is able to thrive in the aerial attack, and if he doesn’t get the top talent, he won’t get very far. Veteran Mike Williams is already a cut candidate since the Chargers brought him back this year.
This passing unit doesn’t sound like they want to win. Ladd McConkey is the only promising receiver on this roster and while there’s a lot of excitement for Tre Harris, they will have to wait how he can light up the field. However, McLaurin could hold it down to be a capable deep-threat for Herbert’s offense.
Kansas City Chiefs
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have two dynamic playmakers in Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. It doesn’t mean they can’t get a third one that could last for the longevity of this offense. McLaurin would be a nightmare in the AFC if he joined the Chiefs.
Baltimore Ravens
However, the Ravens are set on Zay Flowers at WR1 but even though there is some confidence in Rashod Bateman, many shouldn’t count out a trade possibility. DeAndre Hopkins is coming on a one-year deal, so they need a consistent receiver to replicate the performance of Flowers. Bateman might not last beyond two years, while McLaurin can.
