In a surprising twist, the Indianapolis Colts could trade wide receiver Alec Pierce in the NFL Draft next month. According to Pro Football Focus, they believe Pierce could be on the trade since he’s entering his contract year while he has a lot of skills to provide for a team so the Colts could get something solid in return. Out of Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and A.D. Mitchell, the Colts are better off shipping Pierce known for his dynamic skill recording a 99.1 PFF receiving grade which is impressive considering how young he is. Pierce has the chance to become a worthy wide receiver in the league if he gets the right scenery.
Originally selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the former Cincinnati product is coming off his best season with the team recording 37 receptions for 824 yards and seven touchdowns. Pierce has the size and versatility to become someone special as he was the third-leading receiver with 32 catches for 514 yards and two touchdowns the previous season before 2024. There were rumors the team could trade Anthony Richardson this offseason but they plan on retaining him if the Colts are rebuilding, they could probably get a nice return for Pierce’s services. The wide receiver isn’t elite but given his play and slot skills, he could thrive with a contender and at the right timing with these three teams.

Three Potential Destinations
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers got themselves another pass catcher after acquiring Tyler Conklin. However, the Chargers need a wide receiver if they want to go further in the postseason next year after having several inadequate receivers last season. Quentin Johnston hasn’t been improving the past two years in the league so the team could likely cut him this season if he continues to be inconsistent. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the only reliable set of hands for this offense but snagging a guy like Pierce could be huge to see more success from the youngster.
Pierce and McConkey have similar characteristics other than size and versatility. They have the speed and could run the slant routes while Mike Williams could focus on catching the deep balls. Pierce won’t light up the field but he could be another favorite target for Herbert looking for an open man in the pocket.
Carolina Panthers
Pierce is a perfect example of an Adam Thielen 2.0 but a younger and fresh version of him. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker have bright futures but quarterback Bryce Young can’t depend on just them to move chains. They will go through growing pains so they should have a guy like Pierce who has all the momentum in a bottle.
Kansas City Chiefs
Meanwhile, the wide receiver department doesn’t look justifiable for the Kansas City Chiefs. They will need to hold their breath and hope Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice can stay out of trouble because the next man up is a depleting JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquise Brown returning on a one-year deal. With that, the Chiefs could take on a flier like Pierce as he could take on the role that Justin Watson was playing last season before losing him in free agency.
