The Los Angeles Chargers finally get an answer for quarterback Justin Herbert and select wide receiver Tre Harris in this year’s NFL Draft. According to reports, the Chargers are addressing the pass-catching unit and will bring in Harris to help veteran Mike Williams and 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey in the aerial attack. Last season, the team had one of the worst lists of wide receivers, where Herbert was only able to lean on McConkey for the majority of passes. This spells nothing but bad news for wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who had two of the worst back-to-back campaigns in the league.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former TCU product was hoping to carve out a role as a reliable No. 1 wideout, but that might come to an end. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh had high hopes for Johnston before the 2024 campaign, and it’s looking like the team will be better off without him. The Chargers may give him one more opportunity, but he won’t put on much of a show since the team is already heading in a different direction under Harbaugh’s regime. Despite heading to the wild card round this year, it wasn’t enough for Johnston to put on much of anything to show that he’ll be the long-term answer.
The Chargers won’t get much for the wide receiver. However, these four teams may take a chance on the former first-rounder.

New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints still need a wide receiver to bolster this passing offense. After selecting Tyler Shough, the Saints finally have some competition this upcoming NFL Training Camp. Wideout Chris Olave could still be on the trade despite his fifth-year option being picked, but someone like Johnston could streamline the corps if Olave leaves. Rashid Shaheed only thrives when there are capable weapons around him, and while veteran Brandin Cooks is coming back, they could use Johnston to reset this pass offense.
Carolina Panthers
Even after selecting Tetairoa McMillan, the Carolina Panthers could use another pass catcher. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are two rising talents, and they should get more young stars. They know veteran Adam Thielen won’t last more than a year, so someone like Johnston in the aerial attack could make sense to help quarterback Bryce Young.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys should be panicking of looking for a new wide receiver this year. After missing the chance of getting the best talent in this year’s draft, they could save this team and trade for Quentin Johnston. They must realize CeeDee Lamb isn’t god and won’t help quarterback Dak Prescott in every passing situation. Instead of him depending on Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson, the addition of Quentin Johnston should provide some relief.
Kansas City Chiefs
It’ll be an interesting situation for the Kansas City Chiefs this upcoming 2025 season as Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice may be out due to suspensions. If that happens, they should save Patrick Mahomes and get an unproven guy like Johnston for the rest of his two years on his rookie deal. Mahomes knows how to bring out the best in a weapon, and Johnston could be the perfect experiment.
