Breaking: Brutal Cowboys Injury Could Ignite Free Agent Reunion

August 18, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After losing wide receiver Jonathan Mingo to a brutal injury, this could ignite rumors that free agent Amari Cooper might sign with the team. As of this writing, Mingo will reportedly head into an MRI for testing, where the Cowboys fear he tore his PCL in his right knee, which is something that the team is hoping that it’s not the case. By the time this article is out, there should be an update on his condition, but either way, this should motivate the Cowboys to reunite with their former friend, Cooper, who is still available in the market. Strangely, Cooper is still out there and hasn’t signed with a team, at least on a one-year deal, but if they lose Mingo, they should go after the wide receiver again to have not just two but three high-level weapons for quarterback Dak Prescott.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the former five-time Pro Bowler arguably had his best seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after being the No. 1 receiver consistently before losing that spot to CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys should be able to afford signing him on a low-stakes contract even if they don’t have the financial means for it. If Dallas can’t sign him right before the start of the 2025 regular season, here are four other teams that could snag him.

Best Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

Other than Keenan Allen and 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey, the Los Angeles Chargers have arguably one of the worst groups of wide receivers in football. After losing Quentin Johnston to a concussion, the depth is getting smaller in the receiver department for quarterback Justin Herbert. If head coach Jim Harbaugh wants Herbert to continue being a top 5 quarterback and lead this offense to the Super Bowl one day, he should take advantage of the cap space that they do have and invest in a high-level playmaker. Amari Cooper could be another short-term, cheap investment that the Chargers make and could emerge as a top weapon if he can stay healthy.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the best playmakers for Lamar Jackson, especially after signing DeAndre Hopkins. Since they always come “this” close to a Super Bowl, why not sacrifice some cap this campaign and get Cooper in the mix to build four top receivers in the league? When you go up against opponents like the Bills, Chiefs and Chargers, it’s always better to get as much veteran experience as you can get to be in the spot you want to be in.

Kansas City Chiefs

However, the Kansas City Chiefs could soon need a wide receiver soon as they’re expected to lose Rashee Rice to an impending suspension. Between Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy, it’s still an above-average offense, but there is room for improvement. Cooper isn’t going to put over 1,000 yards anymore, but his presence should be enough for Patrick Mahomes to feel comfortable slinging it in the air.

Washington Commanders

No one should be surprised if head coach Dan Quinn makes a phone call to bring Amari Cooper home to reunite with him in Washington. With the way the Terry McLaurin negotiations are going, it doesn’t look like it’ll get better. Deebo Samuel has been looking slow in practice, while Luke McCaffrey and Michael Gallup are unproven. Cooper has some years left in the tank, and this signing should put Jayden Daniels back in the groove of the offense.
