Tyler Conklin, Chargers, Agree to Contract
While the New York Jets had a disappointing season, Tyler Conklin remained his usual self in the final year of his contract. Appearing in 16 games while making 15 starts, the veteran finished the season with 51 receptions for 449 yards, four touchdowns, and a 58.8 PFF grade on 72 targets. Despite the return of a healthy Aaron Rodgers, New York struggled in 2024 and missed the playoffs once again.
Tyler Conklin originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Selected by the Minnesota Vikings, the Central Michigan product took a while to establish himself as an NFL player. Seeing the field sparingly, Conklin recorded just 13 receptions for 135 yards through his first two years. He showed some signs of life in Year 3, appearing in all 16 games while recording 19 receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown, but finally broke out in 2021.
During the final year of his rookie contract, Tyler Conklin recorded 61 receptions for 593 yards and three touchdowns on 87 targets, all of which were career highs at the time. Despite his strong play, the 2021 Vikings went 8-9 and missed the playoffs. After the disappointing season, the team fired head coach Mike Zimmer and moved forward with Kevin O’Connell.
Conklin parlayed his breakout season into a three-year, $21 million deal with the New York Jets. Brought in to support quarterback Zach Wilson, the former fifth-round pick recorded 58 receptions for 552 yards and three touchdowns during his first season in the Big Apple. He followed it up with another strong season in 2023, hauling in 61 receptions for 621 yards and no touchdowns.
Since signing his rookie contract, Tyler Conklin has recorded 263 receptions for 2,544 yards and 11 touchdowns.
