Bengals Wide Receiver Expected to Land $40 Million Per Year – Chargers, Patriots Could Offer Higher

February 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

jamarr chase 40 million

There are rumors that Bengals wide receiver Jamarr Chase could command at least 40 million per year on his new contract. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the superstar wideout could become the first receiver in history to play on this type of contract which likely puts the nail on the coffin for Tee Higgins. Chase is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and doesn’t desire to wait for a new contract. He won’t be waiting around, especially after holding out of training camp two offseasons ago waiting around for the new deal but the two sides failed to reach an agreement. It’s going to be an interesting offseason for the Bengals already placing a franchise tag on Tee Higgins to make things easier in trading him.

However, Chase is open to sitting out a couple of games until he gets the deal he deserves. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former LSU product became one of the most spectacular wideouts for Joe Burrow’s offense for his playmaking abilities and special speed to make an impact on the field. He is someone the Bengals can’t afford to lose but Higgins could come at a cheaper cost if they desire to keep him. if they keep both, they would have to pay about $55 million per year for their deals which they’re already attempting to give keystone pass rusher Trey Hendrickson a contract extension too.

It shouldn’t be surprising if it winds up being that teams could call for Chase’s availability instead of Higgins’s. Two teams like the Chargers, Patriots could pick up the phone to see what the update is on both receivers for a possible trade.

Long-Term Life in LA

The Los Angeles Chargers were one and done last season but they have the door open for a strong 2025 campaign since they have money to burn. Second-year Ladd McConkey is the only reliable wideout on that offense while Quentin Johnston has yet to intrigue the organization he could become a future starting wide receiver. With Joshua Palmer set to hit the free-agent market, the Chargers should be in the conversations for a superstar wideout that could wind up in a trade. This may end up being Jamarr Chase if the Bengals decide to trade him which is unlikely but never say never in sports.

Chase would probably become the man responsible for a future Charger Super Bowl. While the Bengals wouldn’t send him to their AFC rivals, an intriguing deal could be possible to make it happen. Perhaps, a couple of first-round picks? It sounds like a dream but it could become a reality if Chase wants more money the Bengals can’t afford.

A New Scenery

If the Patriots play their cards right, they’re heading in the right direction for the first time since parting ways with Hall of Famer Bill Belichick. Mike Vrabel is taking over duties and even though he may have his eyes on AJ Brown, he could use that same vision to trade for a wideout like Jamarr Chase. The Patriots have too many inconsistent wide receivers on the roster including Kendrick Bourne and Demario Douglas. However, Douglas led the deep receiver group while Bourne could wind up on the trade block.

The Patriots will have to play it safe and consider keeping Bourne since Douglas is an impending free agent. Perhaps, if it happens, they should keep Bourne and trade for Chase to pair a new duo for Vrabel’s offense.
