Bears Free Agent “Should” Draw NFL Interest – 5 Teams Who Could Take a Chance

February 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

free agent teven jenkins

Chicago Bears impending free agent guard Teven Jenkins will likely draw interest across the league this offseason. According to several reports, the Bears will likely part ways with Jenkins even though he was one the better pass protectors in the 2024 campaign. However, there are rumors spiraling that the Bears could look for a superstar to help to assist quarterback Caleb Williams since the offensive line was still one of the worst allowing 60 sacks in 15 games. Chiefs free agent Trey Smith is a favorite to land in Chicago so it’s easy to see why the Bears would want to part ways with Jenkins, especially after suffering an injury during the week 16 loss against the Detroit Lions.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former Oklahoma State product spent the entirety with Chicago playing as a dependable lineman in a starting role while staying healthy for three full seasons. He spent some time as a right guard in 2022 before switching positions at the line to the left. Jenkins reached out to Chicago about an extension but there was none available, however, after missing 23 games in his tenure, it’s fair to see why the Bears are looking to upgrade. Everything starting spot at the Bears’ offensive line is up for grabs except for 2023 first-rounder Darnell Wright, so here are five teams that could take a chance on Jenkins.

Next Possible Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the run offenses in the league but they haven’t found a couple of capable offensive lineman that provides long-term stability. Daniel Faalele and Patrick Mekari are the only reliable men on the front to protect quarterback Lamar Jackson, while they haven’t found help to replace Kevin Zeitler and John Simpson. Teven Jenkins isn’t going to provide much of a difference but he still has the durability to at least play a full season and could play two positions.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the Saints have one of the worst offensive lines in the league and adding Jenkins in the mix will provide immediate help to whoever will become the next quarterback. Alvin Kamara hasn’t been as explosive on run plays so the team had to depend on throwing it to him on dump-off plays. However, they could pull off paying Jenkins on a budget contract since the Saints don’t have the financial liberty to sign the best offensive lineman available in free agency. Jenkins won’t magically fix the entire line but it gives the team some relief.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are in the same boat as the Saints as they will probably look for a replacement in this year’s draft. Zack Martin is aging and it’s hard to imagine he will play more than two seasons in the league. After losing Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz, the Cowboys should dip their hands into free agency and find some offensive line. Jenkins won’t single-handedly help the entire line but be an extra for Dak Prescott’s return.

New York Jets

The four starting offensive linemen are a lock for the Jets with Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker. However, they could some extra boost at the right tackle position since that’s a hole this offseason. Instead of bringing back Morgan Moses, the Jets could perhaps sign a fresh Jenkins since he’s used to switching positions in his career.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves running the football more than head coach Jim Harbaugh and the only way to have a successful run game is to have the best offensive lineman. As it stands, 2024 first-round draft pick Joe Alt is the only capable man on that line. Perhaps, they could sign Jenkins even getting him in a situational role to earn a spot to see how he could fit.
