The San Francisco 49ers will attempt to sell Deebo Samuel in a trade this upcoming offseason again. Many reports state the team will be looking for a trade partner or part ways with the star wide receiver since Samuel’s production has been depleting. Meanwhile, the wideout has not been happy since earlier the 2024 campaign about not receiving enough targets in the aerial attack, but it makes sense why that’s the case. The 49ers were always teasing either releasing or trading him to a team that needs another pass catcher.
Samuel was the subject of trade rumors during the Brandon Aiyuk extension talks but General Manager John Lynch made it clear he’s not looking to trade either of them. Following a disappointing 6-11 season last year, the 49ers are in the position to put quarterback Brock Purdy in the driver’s seat as their leader for many seasons to come. However, Samuel is no longer a part of those plans since his days were coming to an end when the 49ers got wide receiver Rickey Pearsall in last year’s draft. San Francisco will wait until the last minute and if they cannot find a trade partner then it might be likely he’ll become a free agent by June 1st.
Because of Samuel’s name, he should have plenty of suitors but it’ll be one to look at what type of contract he could receive. No one should expect to pay him big money because of his downward production, he might as well take a discount to play for a contender such as the Chargers, Ravens among the many options for him.

Next Five Possible Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh should put offense as their No. 1 priority this offseason. The only capable wide receiver is second-year Ladd McConkey while Quentin Johnston has been depleting. Joshua Palmer will become a free agent so this means Deebo Samuel could easily carve out a role opposite of McConkey to boost the momentum of the game.
Baltimore Ravens
As for the Ravens, they haven’t found a dependable receiver option since parting ways with Odell Beckham Jr. last offseason. Baltimore brought in Diontae Johnson to assist Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman in Lamar Jackson’s passing attack but plans fell through after his locker room antics. The Ravens should take a risk on Samuel which may bring out the spark in him that the 49ers were looking for when he broke out in 2021.
Kansas City Chiefs
Assuming what happens this upcoming free agency, the Chiefs will attempt to re-sign most of their wide receivers. DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise Brown are two big names they can’t afford to lose but if one winds up with another team next year, many should expect to be in the market for a new pass catcher. Samuel has similar characteristics to Xavier Worthy’s speed but with more experience, the Chiefs will be in good hands.
Washington Commanders
Since Josh Harris took over ownership in Washington, they have been building something special for the Commanders. Under Quarterback Jayden Daniels’ wing, the team might be in the market for a big-name receiver to pair with Terry McLaurin. There would be no better way but for the Commanders to take advantage of this opportunity to swing in Samuel as part of their formidable offense.
New England Patriots
Just like the Commanders, the Patriots will probably have a stellar season under quarterback Drake Maye. However, the receiving department looks bleak even though they have many, so the league should expect them to sign a consistent receiver this free agency. Kendrick Bourne may part ways next month so this means getting someone like Samuel should be a significant upgrade.
