3,700-Yard Receiver Will Contemplate Future After Super Bowl – May Join Chargers, Texans if Chiefs Lose

February 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

marquise brown future

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown will contemplate his future after the Super Bowl this weekend. According to Pro Football Talk, Brown hasn’t been thinking about his future beyond the 2024 campaign as the Chiefs are preparing for their Super Bowl appearance. However, the possibility of him considering joining another contender could be on his bucket list if the Chiefs indeed lose against the Eagles this Sunday. Originally selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the wide receiver spent the first few seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and spent just one year with the Arizona Cardinals.

Injuries plagued the wideout from competing in the first half of the 2024 campaign, but he came back with some sort of promise for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brown is an impending free agent after the season, so it’s hard to envision the Chiefs signing him to a new contract since the team will be in a financial circumstance. Kansas City will have to worry about re-signing DeAndre Hopkins, who’s been the alpha for Mahomes’ passing game, so unless Brown is open to taking a cheap contract, they could bring him back for a couple of years. However, regardless of what happens, it shouldn’t be surprising to see him wanting to test the free agent market if the Chiefs don’t win a third straight Super Bowl.

Kansas City might be better off without the wideout since he could be more of a liability, especially after just tallying nine catches for 91 yards. It’s not the worst news for Brown, but a team like the Chargers, Texans could take a chance on him if he is available to move on.

Rebuilding Herbert’s Pass Game

The main ingredient head coach Jim Harbaugh will need to include on their “To-do” list is to help quarterback Justin Herbert’s pass game. Harbaugh admits they didn’t place him in the best position, so it’s fair to get some reliable weapons while they have the salary cap. Quentin Johnston has been a major deficit to this team wanting to excel on offense. After two underperforming seasons, it might be safe for the team to either release or trade him to a new roster.

Meanwhile, rookie Ladd McConkey has plenty of bright spots and looks to become Herbert’s No. 1 receiver one day. However, the Chargers still don’t have the receiver experience to make a deep run in the postseason next year. This could all change by signing Marquise Brown to a deal and pairing with McConkey as their next duo. The team will need to look for another receiver, but they would be heading in the right direction with these two, who can get open and use their agility to move the chains.

C.J. Stroud’s New Weapon?

The biggest need for the Houston Texans will be a wide receiver. Tank Dell suffered a brutal injury that kept him out of the entire postseason contention and there’s no word on whether he will be able to play at all in the 2025 season. If Stefon Diggs decides to explore other options, the team might want to look into Marquise Brown. Even if they get Diggs back on the roster, they should still consider Brown.

These two teaming up next season could help make life easier for C.J. Stroud. Nico Collins will still be their primary wide receiver, but pairing him with Brown and Diggs could finally bring much-needed relief to the offense.
