3 2025 NFL Draft Prospects The Chargers Should Hope For

February 16, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Chargers Draft Prospects

The Los Angeles Chargers have the 22nd selection in the 2025 NFL Draft and are outside of the coveted top 15 selections, where teams usually have a cut-off for their first-round prospect grades. However, with teams operating differently from one another, the Chargers very well can find themselves a first-round prospect on their board at 22.

Chargers fans should wonder if Los Angeles can repeat the successes of their 2024 draft in 2025. The Chargers selecting one of these three players could answer that question early, whether it’s a great fit, perfect player value for a need, or an all-star falling, the Chargers can still get a real difference maker at pick 22.

3 2025 NFL Draft Prospects The Chargers Would Be Enstatic to Land

The Chargers have plenty of needs on their roster, considering free agency has yet to happen and they have nearly 30 impending free agents. With plenty of money to spend on free agents and trade options looming, the way they look at the draft will change drastically over the next few months.

The same will go for the general public and these prospects rankings, as off-season workouts are around the corner. If say, Tetairoa McMillan runs a 4.3, he might move up to the #1 overall prospect.

All of this to say, players in this exercise have plenty of time to move up and down the draft consensus board, but as of the middle of February, these are three 2025 NFL Draft prospects the Chargers should not hesitate to select in the first round if they are still available.

Tyler Warren: A Real Tight End For Justin Herbert

Chargers fans saw what Justin Herbert could do with a “real” tight end when Herbert was throwing to Mark Andrews at the Pro Bowl many years ago. The vision of Herbert ripping touchdowns to someone of that caliber has stayed in Chargers fan’s minds.

By drafting Penn State’s Tyler Warren, the Chargers could possibly get the best fit in the entire draft. Warren, a mauling run blocker 100% fits the nasty attitude that defines the Jim Harbaugh/Greg Roman offense. Beyond his strong blocking ability, Warren is exceptional out in space, running routes, and catching anything and everything that comes his way.

An easy selection for the Chargers to fill one of their biggest holes on offense with a player who is an exceptional talent and fit. All doing so at pick 22.

Tyler Warren is so versatile and one of the best playmakers i’ve seen at the TE position, excellent hands and great in YAC scenarios.

Ashton Jeanty: Throw Positional Value Out the Window

Chargers fans have been very vocal about their thoughts on the run game in 2024, as JK Dobbins was great when healthy… but that is his concern, health. Dobbins is an impending free agent; but should more than likely return to the Bolts. That said, if you see all-star 2025 NFL draft prospect, Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty at pick 22, you HAVE to sprint the card in.

Jeanty brings unreal balance, vision, and speed to any running back room and will instantly walk into the NFL with the talent to be a top-8 running back. Even if the Chargers brought back Dobbins, you now have a long-term answer at running back as well as a very talented tandem that could take carries off of each other to create longevity.

Just imagine the run game Roman cooks up with Dobbins and Jeanty as his backfield. Herbert will indirectly benefit as well by not having to play as much hero ball as he has had to before. Simply put, a player of Jeanty’s caliber being available at pick-22 should allow fans to throw out the positional value and enjoy one of the best 2025 NFL Draft prospects suiting up in powder blue.

Ashton Jeanty’s tape never gets old. Just littered with jaw-dropping runs. Such rare contact balance.

Shemar Stewart: The 2025 NFL Draft Version of Travon Walker

Possibly the most realistic of the three (at least currently, he is very likely to raise his draft stock at the Combine) is Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart. Standing at rank 18 on the 2025 NFL draft consensus board, he is only a few spots away from the Chargers selection at 22.

Stewart has already been compared to the Jaguars star, Travon Walker. This is due to their elite size, athleticism, and traits. Stewart did not produce at the college level when you look at sack production, but if you take a guy that is 6’6 285 with elite short area quickness, and give him a true NFL coaching staff, you may just have an NFL pro who dwarfs their collegiate selves.

280 pounds and Shemar Stewart is so fast he nearly caught this pass in the backfield lolpic.twitter.com/RaPz64lDRI

The Chargers need an EDGE rusher as Joey Bosa is a likely cut candidate and Khalil Mack is a free agent. That would leave the impressive Tuli Tuipolotu and the veteran Bud Dupree as the duo on the EDGE. That is simply not enough. You add in an athletic freak like Stewart and re-sign Mack for another year, you create an impressive defensive front for both the 2025 Chargers and for the future teams after.
