The Chargers could look to add some help for Derwin James and the secondary in the 2025 NFL Draft
Although the Jim Harbaugh version of the Los Angeles Chargers are known for building from the interior out, one of the top safeties in the 2025 NFL Draft could be a fantastic landing spot for a team that needs a running mate to go with their all-pro safety in Derwin James. They could possibly find said partner in Georgia defensive back Malaki Starks.
Malaki Starks is a rare breed…

Starks stands out as one of the premiere players in all of college football the last few years on a dominant Georgia Football team. A rangy athlete who can play in multiple positions in the secondary, Starks has almost always produced at an elite level regardless of if he plays in the slot, on the boundary, or deep center field. With 6 interceptions in his career, Starks could be the back end support the Chargers need to keep a cap on the big play.
Pairing Starks with Derwin James is a winning formula that could help the Chargers boast one of the best secondaries in the AFC. While the Chargers got decent play out of the free safety position last year, Elijah Molden is a free agent and Alohi Gillman is not the long term solution at that spot. Given the versatility and range of Starks, he could yet another interesting piece to a Chargers defense that showed flashes of greatness last season.
What do you think about the Chargers snagging Starks in the first round come April?
