McGovern joined Chip Kelly’s staff last February after spending eight of the last nine years coaching in the NFL. He was a coach for the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants.
He was also the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Boston College and was with that program from 2000-12.
McGovern also coached at other notable college programs, including the University of Massachusetts, Pitt, and the University of Pennslyvania. He had been a football coach since 1985.
He is survived by his wife Colleen, and daughters Amanda, Delainey, and Mackenzie.
Our condolences are with his friends and family members. May he rest in peace.
