Alabama gets the upper hand over most football opponents. That hasn’t always been the case.
While the Crimson Tide have an all-time winning record against every current SEC adversary, some foes got their upper hand in limited (and not recent meetings).
Saturday Down South noted 12 teams with a winning record over Alabama:
- Boston College, 1-3
- Central Florida, 0-1
- Minnesota, 0-1
- Northern Illinois, 0-1
- Notre Dame, 3-5
- Oklahoma, 2-3
- Oklahoma State, 0-1
- Rice, 0-3
- TCU, 2-3
- Texas, 2-7
- UCLA, 1-2
- Utah, 0-1
Alabama hasn’t faced any of these opponents 10 or more times. The Longhorns have handed the Crimson Tide the most losses (seven) of this group, which includes five one-and-done matchups.

These records also don’t fall on Nick Saban. None of those dozen programs have defeated Alabama since Oklahoma won the Sugar Bowl in 2014. Alabama also lost its only encounter with Utah in the 2009 Sugar Bowl.
Beyond these 12, Alabama is 0-1 against three other former programs (Carlisle, Centre, Georgia Pre-Flight) from 1924 or earlier. Villanova also bested the Crimson Tide in their only 1951 meeting.
Of these teams, Alabama only gets a chance to beat Texas in 2023. Saban and Co. defeated the Longhorns last year and will have more chances chance to remove them and the Sooners from this list when they join the SEC.
