Everyone Said The Same Thing After Chip Kelly, NFL Report Emerged

Chip Kelly reportedly wants out of UCLA and is eyeing a return to the NFL as an offensive coordinator. 

This news has sparked plenty of takes on social media Thursday night, with many saying Kelly, like Boston College’s Jeff Hafley, is just one of the college head coaches who will look to leave the sport because of its changing landscape.

“This is only the beginning. And you may as well include Harbaugh and Saban on the list of ‘CFB Climate Change’ decisions,” said ESPN’s Matt Barrie.

“Never thought we’d see the day where multiple Power 5 head coaches would leave for NFL coordinator jobs but in this day and age of roster building via NIL, transfer portal and having to re-recruit your own players every year, I get it and think it’s only the beginning,” echoed 247Sports’ Greg Biggins.

“Never a great look for the current state of CFB and its sustainability when a college coach in a top conference in a top media market says the hell with it I’d rather be a coordinator in the NFL (Hafley never had a chance to win at BC, apples to oranges),” added betting analyst Todd Fuhrman.

“Looks like Chip Kelly is trying to get out of CFB also. We’re two months away from the spring portal but the portal may never fully close until then,” said DNVR Sports’ Jake Schwanitz.

“The obvious next in line “NIL and recruiting s–k I just wanna coach ball” guy after Hafley, not sure why he hasn’t left yet tbh,” said another user.

Ironically, Kelly is also being mentioned as a potential fit at Boston College, which is looking for a replacement for Hafley, who left on Wednesday to become the new defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.

The 60-year-old former Oregon and NFL head coach has spent the last six seasons running the program at UCLA.
