Just a couple of years ago former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was seen as a surefire head coach in the NFL. But after being dismissed as offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders last year, he decided to take his talents back to college and join the UCLA Bruins.
Unfortunately, Bieniemy hasn’t exactly put much genius on display in his first game as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach of the Bruins against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
Though the first half, Hawaii lead UCLA 10-0 and have been running circles around UCLA’s offense. Bruins QB Ethan Garbers went just 6 of 19 for 69 yards and two interceptions while the running game was held under 25 yards.
Fans were not in the least bit amused by the offense under Bieniemy and have been torching him on social media for the better part of an hour:
“This is, frankly, embarrassing, and the kind of performance that would get a coach fired if this wasn’t his first game. Eric Bieniemy, however, is never beating the allegations about having his career carried by Patrick Mahomes,” one user wrote.
“Eric Bieniemy is a big stock down through 1 quarter. Holy smokes,” wrote another.
“eric bieniemy is the worst oc of all time, i can’t believe ucla got tricked into hiring him,” a third said bluntly.
The Bruins were 13.5-point favorites heading into this game. There’s still time for them to turn things around in the second half, but Bieniemy could be on borrowed time if the Bruins don’t show massive improvement extremely soon.
