Weekly Sparks Players Grades: Los Angeles drops a pair of games

The Sparks are now on a two-game losing streak, and with Kelsey Plum out, things are looking shaky in Los Angeles.

The injuries and losses continue to mount for the Sparks. Odyssey Sims missed the last two games for personal reasons, and now Kelsey Plum is out with a leg injury.

Unfortunately, Los Angeles has been unable to overcome these challenges.

On the road against the Lynx, Napheesa Collier dominated them in Commissioner’s Cup play. Returning to Los Angeles didn’t help the Sparks much. They lost 98-67 to the Storm and are now 4-9 on the season.

So, let’s grade this week’s performances. As always, grades are based on expectations for each player. A “B” grade represents the average performance for that player.

Kelsey Plum

35.1 minutes, 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.5 blocks, 7-23 FG, 3-9 3PT, 16-17 FT, -14

Plum had a lackluster week by her standards. Against the Aces, she struggled massively, taking just seven shots and scoring only 13 points.

The Sparks will only go as far as Plum takes them, so hopefully her absence is short-lived and she’ll continue on with her career year sooner rather than later.

Grade: C

Dearica Hamby

29.7 minutes, 12.3 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.7 steals, 0.3 blocks, 15-28 FG, 1-3 3PT, 6-11 FT, -25

Hamby had a rough week. She couldn’t put the ball in the basket, scoring just 10 points against the Lynx and was unable to crack double figures in the Sparks’ loss to the Storm.

With Plum unavailable, L.A. needed a big game from Hamby. She was unable to provide one, and the Sparks had no chance of beating the Storm.

Grade: D+

Azurá Stevens

25 minutes, 13 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, 14-33 FG, 1-8 3PT, 10-11 FT, -36

All Sparks players struggled against the Lynx, and Stevens was no exception. She only scored four points in the blowout loss, but was significantly better against the Storm and Aces.

Stevens’ performance in Las Vegas was her best this week. She shot 50% from the field, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in the win.

Grade: C+

Rickea Jackson

34.7 minutes, 21.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1 steal, 21-44 FG, 8-19 3PT, 15-16 FT, -47

This was far and away the best week of 2025 for Jackson. She had a career-high 30 points against the Aces and remained offensively aggressive in all Sparks games.

Rickea was deep in her Chanel bag tonight.

Jackson appears to be fully recovered from her concussion, is now hitting her 3-pointers, attacking the basket and shooting very well from the free throw line.

Grade: A

Sarah Ashlee Barker

27.4 minutes, 6.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.3 steals, 6-15 FG, 5-6 3PT, 2-4 FT, -42

Barker is playing a lot for a rookie. She always gives a solid effort and is getting more comfortable taking the open shot. If she continues to improve, Barker will likely remain in the rotation even when the Sparks have players return from injury.

Grade: B+

Shey Peddy

15.5 minutes, 4.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2-4 FG, 1-1 3PT, 4-5 FT, -12

Due to the injuries the Sparks are dealing with, the team signed Peddy to a rest-of-season hardship contract this week.

The Los Angeles Sparks have signed guard Shey Peddy to a rest-of-season hardship contract. In 2022, as a member of the Mercury, Peddy averaged 9.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 steals. This past offseason, she was named Defensive Player of the Year at Athletes…

Peddy not only played, but she also started for the Sparks in their last game against the Storm. She did the best one can expect for a player who hasn’t had any time to gel with the team or get settled into this new environment.

Grade: B

Emma Cannon

15 minutes, 7.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 8-11 FG, 4-5 3PT, 2-4 FT, -10

Cannon is currently playing a couple of shifts a game and is taking advantage of the opportunities she’s been given. She shot 8-11 from the field this week and converted on all but one of her 3-point attempts.

Grade: B

Liatu King

11.3 minutes, 4.7 points, 1 rebound, 0.3 assists, 3-7 FG, 0-2 3PT, 8-10 FT, +2

Similar to Cannon, King is seeing an increase in play with key players out. King’s time on the floor has been fine, but nothing particularly noteworthy.

Grade: C

Odyssey Sims, Grace Berger, Sania Feagin, Mercedes Russell

Sims and Berger only participated in one game, so they did not receive a grade this week. Russell and Feagin averaged under 10 minutes of action per contest, so they will not be graded either.

Lynne Roberts

With so many players out, it’s hard to be overly critical of Roberts as a coach. The Sparks weren’t expected to win the games they lost, and until she has her starters back, L.A. just has to do the best it can with the players that are available.

Grade: C
