Tyrese Proctor has had quite the three seasons in Durham. The rollercoaster ride has finally slowed though as he had a great junior season. Now, Tyrese Proctor is preparing for the 2025 NBA Draft. Here is what needs to be known about Proctor.
Tyrese Proctor 2025 NBA Draft Profile
College Career
Proctor is one of the first commits to Jon Scheyer when he took over the Duke Blue Devils. Scheyer called Proctor and asked him to come to college early and help the Blue Devils as a playmaking guard. Now, after his third season, he went through many ups and downs but is coming off his best year.
Proctor averaged 12.4 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, and 2.2 assists per game. He shot 40.5% from the three point line on a high volume (5.6 per game) as well. He ended up with 3rd team All-ACC honors.

Strengths
Proctor has elite size and quickness which makes him an incredible defender. Over his first two seasons, he was often required to guard the best player on the other side and did it with great success. This season, with Duke being such a great defensive team, he was able to switch consistently and did well. He is active in passing lanes, always applying ball pressure, and able to recover whenever he is beat. He checks all the boxes defensively.
The other major area of success for Proctor was his spot up shooting ability. He had struggled to shoot it when he was playing as the primary ball-handler but moving off-ball was a key to his offensive success. Admittedly, his numbers are better on the dribble but that is related to a rhythm dribble he often takes before shooting spot up jumpers. This season, he shot an incredibly high percentage on a major volume. He also was not afraid to take and make big shots and he showed throughout the conference tournament and March Madness. As with all shooters, there are ebbs and flows so do not let the recency bias of the Houston game affect the facts.

Proctor has a great handle and quick first step which means he excels with shot creation. Often, he would get to his midrange game and then create space using a pivot foot and a fadeaway jumper. He also has blowby ability and can finish at the rim although he is not as comfortable as he is shooting jumpers. He still shot 52% on twos this year which is great for a guard that does not take many layups.
Weaknesses
Proctor does struggle with shooting off the bounce. He is a considerably better shooter from a spot up position than a handling position. That has a lot to do with the massive third year success compared to his first two years. He will probably be a combo guard in the NBA but he will need to show some ability to shoot off the bounce in the league.
The other concern is Proctor’s decision making which is fleeting at times. He can sometimes make very questionable decisions, often when he is sped up or in transition, which is where he will be often in the NBA. Playing with composure is going to be important to maintain a role in the league. Ultimately, his turnover percentage decreased significantly each year while his usage increased.
Player Comparison
Derrick White or Anthony Black. The role Proctor can fill best is the Derrick White Celtics role. He can be an elite defender who makes open shots and is reliable for his team. He absolutely is good enough to be a key role player on a championship level team and has qualities that elevate said teams. His defense is what will earn him minutes from the get-go.
