Trade discussions between Nico Harrison and Rob Pelinka involving Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis “built” over the last three weeks, according to Harrison.
Harrison and Pelinka have had a working relationship of over twenty years from when Harrison was with Nike and Pelinka was Kobe Bryant’s agent.
Harrison got full support from team governor Patrick Dumont in the weeks leading up to Saturday night’s trade.
The Mavs GM also added that he wanted to avoid a potentially “tumultuous summer” of negotiating a supermax contract with Doncic.
Doncic was never made publicly available, with Harrison pursuing a trade for only Davis.
