On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that Bronny James had been reassigned to the G League.
James, who is in his rookie season, will play home games for the G League’s South Bay Lakers, but won’t travel with the team. On Friday, James will dress for the actual Lakers against the Philadelphia 76ers before making his G League debut Saturday night.
If you’re in the area and want to attend Saturday’s game between the South Bay Lakers and Salt Lake City Stars, be prepared to open your wallet. Ticket prices have exploded into the triple digits.
“Bronny James will make his debut for the South Bay Lakers of the G League on Saturday against the Salt Lake City Stars. Tickets for the game are sold out and the cheapest ticket on the secondary market is $200,” tweeted Sporting Tribune’s Arash Markazi.
Considering you can get tickets for tomorrow night’s Lakers-Sixers game for $100 on Seat Geek, seeing how much Bronny’s presence has increased the cost for a G League game is startling.
A second-round pick out of USC, Bronny made history on opening night when he and his father LeBron became the first father-son duo to appear in the same game in NBA history. In four regular season appearances so far, the younger James has scored four points on 1-of-6 shooting and 2-of-2 from the free throw line, along with two assists, one rebound, one steal and one turnover.
“Our plans are always fluid based on real time,” Lakers head coach JJ Redick said late last month. “I believe we have two guys dressing today that as of yesterday we’re not dressing out.
“The plan for Bronny to move between the Lakers and South Bay has always been the plan since day one. [General manager] Rob [Pelinka] and I have talked about that. LeBron’s talked about that.”
Tip time for the South Bay Lakers-Salt Lake City Stars game is set for 8 p.m. ET Saturday.
