For the past two decades, LeBron James has been linked to Michael Jordan. It comes with the territory of being the greatest NBA player of his generation.
Some basketball fans have already declared James the G.O.A.T. even though his career is still going. Others, however, believe there’s nothing he can do to catch Jordan.
While this debate between James and Jordan won’t be going away anytime soon, an interesting story was shared this week regarding these two all-time greats.
Former NBA guard Rashad McCants said he spoke to someone that had an interaction with James early on his career. During a card game, the former No. 1 pick allegedly made an eye-opening remark about Jordan.
Apparently, LeBron told people at the table that he was trying to make Jordan “disappear.” In other words, he’d replace him in the history books.
“This comes from a high-table source who told me they had a conversation after the 2005 season,” McCants said, via Lakers Daily. “Playin’ bourré with Bron — a bunch of [expletive] on the table — and Bron just happened to say some [expletive] randomly. ‘Man, I’m trying to make that other No. 23 disappear.’ The guy who told me looked up, looked at everybody else at the table, said, ‘Good luck, young fella.’”
Jordan hasn’t disappeared, but James has definitely made a name for himself.
James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, is considered the most versatile player the league has ever seen. Unfortunately for him, his record in the Finals has been used against him.
Jordan, on the other hand, was a perfect 6-0 in the NBA Finals. That’s the only argument his fans need when defending him.
