The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t wasting time when it comes to negotiating a contract for rookie guard Bronny James.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Lakers plan on signing Bronny to a multiyear guaranteed rookie contract. The terms of his deal aren’t out yet.
The Lakers selected Bronny with the No. 55 pick in this year’s draft. Most fans are convinced that selection was made strictly because he’s the son of LeBron James. After all, the USC product only averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in his only season of college basketball.
Not that it’s a huge surprise, but Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka raved about Bronny after the Lakers made the pick.
“Bronny is first and foremost a person of high character. And secondly, he’s a young man who works incredibly hard,” Pelinka said. “Those are the qualities we look for in drafting players and adding to our developmental core at the Lakers. He had a great draft workout with us where he displayed those qualities. In terms of his work ethic, we’ve all seen that lived out, too. He’s not a person who has ever taken shortcuts or expected or been entitled about basketball opportunities.”
Bronny will wear No. 9 for the Lakers this season. Only time will tell if he can develop into a valuable role player.
